If that's all they get for a $3.5 million Kadri, I'd rather trade Coleman now and use the retention.

If Norris could actually stay healthy I'd be up for that. Seems to be injured more often than not.

No doubt Kadri is tired of the uncertainty and wouldn’t mind a cup chance. And doesn’t want to go through it all again next season if he doesn’t get traded. I don’t think that means he’s asking demands.
That said, you don’t just bend over, take bad returns and use a retention slot to do so just because a player is unhappy.

Yeah maybe 50%'s too high, I just don't think the return's going to be that great, tempering expectations.

Kadri to Buffalo would be fun. Right across the border for his family. But also can be seen as the guy that saves that team and gets them into playoff success.

There's 7 teams over the cap not withstanding LTIR heading into the deadline. Knights, Panthers, Isles, Oil. Dallas, Devils.
I'm sure any one of them has a pick or two to throw the Flames way to make thing balance out heading into the playoffs.

Is it the entire team in the playoffs or just who they dress in the line up for a game that is the cap?

Kadri return is going to be disappointing for many methinks. He is deep into the back 9 of his career, and has too much term on his contract for his age, which severely limits his value.
Flames have two choices, get a decent return now OR wait until he falls off a cliff and get nothing or even worse have to pay to get rid of the contract. It would be stupid to be holding the bag a year or two from now, when is value is likely the highest right now that it is ever going to be. Even if that value is not what some on this forum are hoping it to be. IMO it would be a christmas miracle if we got a 1st, even with retention, but I hope I am wrong.

Think it's the entire team.

Just who they dress
Starting with the 2025-26 season, the NHL will implement a playoff salary cap for the first time. Under this new rule, each team’s dressed playoff lineup must fit under the same salary cap used during the regular season.
The playoff cap will be calculated on a game-by-game basis, using the projected 20-player lineup for the upcoming game, plus any applicable dead-cap charges. Players who are scratched or on injured reserve do not count towards the playoff cap. Teams must submit their 20-player roster before each playoff game no later than 3pm local time, or 5 hours before the game (whichever comes first).

All I can get

I'm inclined to think Kadri won't be moved. Not that there's little interest, but moreso due to remaining contract term.
A Coleman trade seems inevitable.

Why would they even trade him for that? You can get a second for retaining 5-10 million from any team in the league

Its oddly strange how it went from a sellers market 2 weeks ago, to a buyers market the week of the deadline....
If the offers are underwhelming, there's really no rush to move either guy outside of giving yourself more room for dropping in the standings, but that's not guaranteed anyway. I really hope we didn't wait too long.

Well which are they? You've said the Flames were happy with the offers they got.
This might just be the flames being too greedy.
I like Conroy but he did go to the Brad Treliving school of General Managing. Which turns out, isn't a very good school.

I think just be glad they traded Andersson when they did. I am going to guess that the offers didn't really go backwards but they were never that enticing to where Kadri and Coleman would want to go.

Thanks
I would definitely think there is risk
Coleman and Kadri next season are 35 and 36
Play will decline at some point
Personally not sure Kadri is an asset they can trade if heavy retention is not included

It's a total failure. When you float a guy out there for so long that they move their family out of town, or another guy says he wants out (NOW) and then don't make a deal? That's a #### up of epic proportions. You've taken two serviceable and committed veterans and have driven them to wanting out of town and away from the team.
There's no spinning this. Coleman and Kadri both now want out and this was (rightly) created by the team management. You started down this avenue, now finish it because the rest of the players are watching how these guys are being treated and it will determine their future commitment to the club and the reputation of the team and how it treats its players. Conroy ####ed up the Markstrom situation in a similar fashion, not getting the trade done in the window expected and alienating the player. That ultimately worked out for the team, but when the same things happen with Coleman and Kadri, that becomes a trend and how a reputation is earned. So yes, I think this is a total failure if those players aren't moved as expected.

I get that there is no rush, but I would also argue that it prolongs the rebuild time. I would love for your prediction of the 2.5 trades to include more futures this time around then picks. I would also like to see it include Whitecloud type players that can also be used in future trades.

I'm not as much of anti-Treliving guy as most but putting that aside ....
If others thought that "I went to the school" of every terrible VP or manager I reported to in my career I'd be pretty disappointed.

Jeepers. Harsh take. I’d be as disappointed as anyone. But taking a bad deal (if any offers were made at all) would get the pitchforks out saying we got taken to the cleaners.
The market is the market. Have to play in it. You don’t set it, you follow it. These buyers are savvy and won’t pay any more than they have to. Pisses us off as we are on the receiving end. They will wait for prices to drop or find pieces available for prices they are willing to pay.
It ain’t over by any stretch but the market shift has been consequential. We heard about how floodgates were opening after th Olympic freeze and it’s been a dribble.
Could be a very quiet market with bit pieces moving unless someone goes cowboy and steps up. Here’s hoping.
