Have been on a work retreat all week returning tomorrow with Friday booked off. I asked the league to wait for most of the trades so I could enjoy without being distracted. Sorry everyone we might have to wait

And I guess the only sticking point is the compensation the Flames receive for the retention. Who’s going to blink. Two tough dealing GMs.

I forgot where and who exactly said it but it was on TSN insider trading (I believe) at one point that Kadri had changed to the category of “wanting to be moved”

100% agree. He’s the one player on the roster whose value I think could realistically dip into negative territory (other then Huberdeau) and turn into a bad contract for the Flames if they wait too long.
If you can move him for a 5th with no retention, you take that every time just to move on. If Calgary retains, obviously the return improves and you can probably squeeze a bit more value out of it.
Coleman is a different case. I think he’ll still have solid value in the offseason, and that might actually be the better time to retain salary if they want to maximize the return.

If Conroy doesn’t move Kadri or Coleman it’s not the end of the world or a failure on his part. These a valuable players who still have term that can be moved in the offseason or next deadline when Calgary has more retention slots available. I don’t think the value will differ that much for either player.
The idea that Conroy has to just move those players regardless of the return to make sure this team is as bad as possible, is one of the dumbest things I have ever heard. No GM is ever going to take you seriously if you do that, and this team is already really bad with those players. Trading away good and well respected players for nothing is a good way to lose the respect of your players and coaching staff.
This team is moving in the right direction, young players are getting opportunities and more will get chances to play after the deadline. Conroy has loaded up with draft picks and has mostly made really smart draft choices.

If there is truth to Kadri wanting out, shipping him out asap has to be the team's first priority.
Use the retention if you have to to make a trade palpable but get it done.

Very much 3rd hand info....but I was talking to someone last week and it came across as Kadri wants to try and win another cup (or more) and realizes its unlikely to happen in Calgary, so was much more open to moving than he had been.
However, he loves the city and his team and if he could stay and accomplish it here, that would be his preference.
Maybe its just semantics but those are different things IMO.
I still dont think it happens this week unless there is an amazing return that makes retention worthwhile.

Man- I believe our insiders when they say there will be 2 or more trades before Friday’s deadline, but I can’t shake the feeling that we are going to be disappointed.

Expecting Kadri (50% retained) for a 2nd & B-prospect. And Pachal for a 3rd.
Coleman gets traded at the draft.

And at 35 with what, 3 more years remaining… his value to others in obtaining him include this years playoffs. Teams aren’t looking at adding Kadri for his contributions in two years. They’re wanting him for this run and next and will deal with his regression thereafter as part of the realities of bringing him on board.

Whatever we get is what the market is. I just want change. keep ushering kids and a new era.

why would they do that?
50% is over 10M$ they have to pay him to play for someone else and they get almost nothing in return? Does not sound anything like how this club tends to operate.

From Blues guy Andy Strickland:
Buffalo has some quality prospects and I’m sure teams would be focusing on guys like Konsta Helenius and Radim Mrtka. Josh Norris is a guy off of their current roster and a name you hear should they find a trade partner and make a significant move.

I just don't swing from side to side on the opinion on media members; don't see much point to it.
The market will be what it is. They'll make the decisions based on what they are seeing (value vs offer) and go from there.
If we learn they missed the market, or priced their assets too high with certainty then by all means have a Conroy voodoo doll party and hammer pins in him.
But this isn't checkers, and without any knowledge of what is actually going on I'm just going to watch it unfold with interest and then move on to watching young players and hoping for lottery balls.

I think the Flames might actually be cap eaters this deadline too.
So as fast as Flames leaving the roster yeah maybe 1 or 2. But eating contracts for teams trying to make room and maybe get a goodie bag or two in the process? They could do a fair bit of work.

Would Norris for Kadri work? I'd be okay with it I think.
