Size means a lot in the NHL. It affects player value for a reason.

Oh I agree completely. I am seriously nervous that we are going to end up with a pressbox defenseman, a KHL forward, and a 29th overall pick.

If (by all indications) we receive a late 1st round pick as part of the package for Iggy I'd like to see us try and flip it along with another player / prospect to try and land a top 5-10 pick.
If we could somehow draft MacKinnon or Barkov with our pick
and then use the upgraded first to land Sean Monahan... that would huge strides for this team in just a few months.
Wishful thinking, but fingers crossed.

A sad day definitely, but a great day and time to turn a new leaf. Time to be optimistic about what Calgary could be, not what it was, even if Iginla was a once in a two decade kind of player.

I have a terrible feeling that it will take a long time before the Calgary Flames will be anything to be excited about.

He is a once in a lifetime kind of player. Not being sentimental, either.
In full agreement otherwise.

If iggy is gone we had better dump the rest of our team as well. Butler, sarich, cammy, jaybo and do a rebuild.
I'm transitioning into my anger stage slowly.

Size is only an issue if you don't have a good mix. Calgary are a pretty small team, and they are about to trade away one of their biggest forwards so it's not going to get any better.

I feel numb right now...can't believe it has come to this but I know it is probably best for both parties.
However if the return is Bartkowski and Khokhlachev I will be very dissapointed. Focus of a rebuild should be getting bigger and tougher, and players who can play defense. That is how you win in the playoffs.
