Yesterday was unbelievable. Maybe because I logged close to 200km, but man I saw some awful driving yesterday.
I forgot the biggest piss off from yesterday and this morniing. You lazy sumbitches that cant be bothered to brush the snow off your cars are just pathetic. Absolutely hopelessly pathetic. Why are you so lazy, both physically and mentally? Do you not realize that once you get up to speed, all that snow blowing off inhibits the vision of the vehicle behind you? Brush off that snow! And while you're at it, don't forget to clean off your tail lights. Kinda hard to see your brake lights or signal lights when there's three inches of snow stuck to them. Lazy a-holes.

Absolutely, its important in a front wheel drive to get as much downforce as possible on the rear wheels.

Like mentioned, it isn't just trucks. Yes they are bad because of the weight issue (most smart drivers like my dad put sandbags in the back to weigh it down better), but the problem concerns all drivers.
Sometimes I see people (mostly kids) just gunning the acceleration and not moving...duhhh. Then I see some people (mostly old women) who are barely on the throttle because (I can only assume) they think that if they go too much gas they will take off.
The answer is too "pulse" the accelerator. That's what I do anyway, heavy, off, medium, heavy, slowly, then when I feel the traction I resume. Driving a FWD Cobalt with All-Season tires really doesn't help at all though.

While I'm thinking about those spoilers, I saw one yesterday that was just hilarious. A crappy old accord with this spoiler on it that looked like it was going to break to pieces before it ever served it's purpose. Dang kids these days. When I was a young punk, we decked out our crap mobiles with thumping stereos. The last thing we did was draw attention to the beaten up outer shell by glueing some broken piece of tinfoil to the trunk.

Roads were definetely worse traction wise this morning.
They will be even worse for the commute home today. With the sun peaking out, it's glazing the top surface of the roads and making them smoother. Temperature dropping again in the evening will make the bad situation even worse. Hopefully the sanders are dropping sand during the day today on that thin top soft/melted layer so we get some traction when the temp drops.
30th street down south here in Ogden/Foothills Industrial is brutally slick. I've driven on race tracks on a frozen lake with better traction.

I'm in Copperfield as well and had to dig my car out of the back alley on Tuesday morning. Backed into a massive snow drift pulling out of my parking pad and had to get out on the passenger side as the snow was halfway up my driver-side door.
My commute was around 1:45 on Tuesday, 2:30 on Wednesday, and 1:50 today. I need to find a different route; it shouldn't take me 30-45 minutes just to get to Deerfoot. Thinking I'll skip the traffic circle tomorrow and go to 130th instead.
I'm also going to park on the street for the next little while. There doesn't seem to be enough traffic in the lane to pack the fresh snow down. I almost got stuck again last night after coming home from the Flames game, but was able to reverse my way back to the street.

Man, the weather played havoc on my walk to work today. I think I left my place at 7:15 and didn't get into work (downtown) until 7:40. Yup, a whole 10 minutes longer
It's funny when you're walking and actually moving faster than traffic haha.

Glenmore was well plowed at lunch, and the lanes were clear. Even still, people were going 40...frustrating. You could easily hit 70 with conditions that good. I tested my breaks and there was no sliding whatsoever.

I was driving to work this morning and all the cars are going about 30-40 km/h and there's a whole lot of us. This awesome truck rides the median and pushes probably 60-70 km/h and all of a sudden the light turns red and he's far enough that he tries to brake. Whooops... he spins out of control in the middle of the intersection. Friggin dumbass was lucky he didn't get t-boned. By far one of the dumbest things I have ever seen in Edmonton.

I'm more or less convinced that he was circumventing the traffic on 33rd ave. I hate people that shortcut through MY neighbourhood.
I know that winter tires get you going faster, and probably help you brake better. Still don't need to be zipping around residential areas like that.
|
And yet when I try to install some snow speedbumps by shovelling my sidewalk into the street, in order to prevent a-holes like this Jetta, people on this board try to tell me I am a scourge to society.
I hate people that shortcut through my neighbourhood. Especially when it's not going to save them any time!

You need to go catch some more Oiler games.
So absolutely its taboo to go on the shoulder and then merge back in at the end, but is it frowned upon if people go all the way to end to merge in a regular lane? I do that but i get alot of peed off people who don't want to let me in.
not sure why cars are merging in so early.

On my way into work I had a car pass by me in the parking lot that was absolutely covered with snow, only area clear was what the wipers moved out of the way.
To top it off, the guy's girlfriend was covering his eyes from the passenger seat with her hands as they both smiled, laughed and drove through the parking lot. I was only walking 3 feet away, got pretty pissed off when I saw that.

Its people who drive to the end of the merge lane and stop though. The point of the lane is to et up to speed and then merge. If you drive to the end and stop you aren't going to be up to speed and can't actually "merge" into traffic!
I hate the people who go on the shoulder and then try to swerve back in. They are doing that just to avoid sitting in line like everyone else...completely different situation.

they get upset because they have already moved over and you assume someone will let you in if you try to skirt the line. Cars waiting till the end to merge just to get a few car lengths farther up in bumper to bumper traffic when its clearly marked that the lane is ending will never be given the courtesy merge by me.
Construction lane cut offs are the biggest piss off of this for mer personally. Other than that I dont have a problem with it ifs a normal lane merge like coming onto deerfoot.

IMO it's the people who merge early who are effing it up for everyone in the lane. If everyone just goes to the end of the merge lane and alternates then traffic will run at a better pace than when people merge all willy nilly. If you're the guy waiting in the lane while people are merging ahead of you, you'll see people letting everyone and their dog in. I seriously see people let 3-4 cars merge in ahead of them which completely stalls the traffic behind.

You do realize driving to the end of a merge fully utilizes the lane and allows for more volume than if everyone merges during rush hour 200m before the merge? You're making the rush hour worse by merging early.
