Are you willing to pay the same in property taxes as Edmonton does? Nothing in life is free, considering what the budget is I think the job done is on par with what we pay.

The SE (specifically 17th Ave SE) has the stupidest drivers in the world. That is all.

I took Crowchild this morning and was pleasantly surprised at how well everyone was driving. A steady 10kph is better than stop for 2 minutes, then go for 10 seconds.
Some of the complaints in this thread seem a bit ridiculous. It smnowed all night and is still coming down a bit. The plows were out there, it's just impossible to plow snow that hasn't fallen yet, and when that happens during rush hour, it's pretty useless to send a plow up Crowchild when it's bumper to bumper in all three lanes.

Took me about 1:15 to get to Airdrie (normally 35-45 mins). Couple break downs and one accident, otherwise, outside of a few idiots, everyone kept their distance and did well.

However, McIvor Blvd. is already under 1 inch of ice and due to the winds, our back alley has several feet of drifted snow already. All the neighbours were stuck.

Which kind of makes sense I guess, no experience driving in snow.

Just crazy, no accidents, roads are fine, but still takes 4 times as long to get far on 17th because people drive 30 max on the road, and creep through lights at 5km/h. I'll sit through 5 lights to get to an intersection.. The road ahead of the light is perfectly clear, but only 3 cars make it through the light each time because they can't go more than 5km/h!

Just frustrating because my usual traffic escape (listening to audio books) I can't do while taking my kid to school.. or I guess I could, but then he'd have all kinds of inappropriate words to learn!

Lol and it's not just in snow they drive terrible.

I'm far from being racist and was born to Immigrant parents, but honestly all I see on 17th ave se (and I've been using 17th ave se all my life) is people of colour driving horrible in my area. Sure some people will say "well your area is mostly filled with colour people" well yeah that's true, but SW areas are mostly filled with higher class white people and they mostly drive just fine.

Like you said I'm not surprised at all because of them not having much experience in snow or usually not as much experience with driving at all. Everyday I see drivers trying to make a left turn off of 17th Ave se in the middle lane when they have a seperate turning lane they totally ignore. And I can honestly say 95% of the time it's a black driver doing it. Sudani immigrants have A LOT to learn about driving in Canada, and I honestly don't know how some of them got their licenses. People are going to call me racist, but I'm far from it. I've lived in Forest Lawn my whole life and see the government dump immigrants in my neighborhood and a week later they are driving a vehicle.

And I know that the government is dumping immigrants in Forest Lawn because me and my dad have rental properties here and the government pays their rent and sometimes even furnish their whole house.

False. I drive about 100-150KM in the SW everyday and I wish what you said was true. Don't forget the Sw has ChinaTown, almost all of downtown, the native reserve, Woodbine, and areas like Strathcona, Cougar Ridge etc which are full of immigrants. It's brutal out there. So brutal in fact I stayed home today. Not worth risking my ass.

Outside of maybe the North East, Calgary's demographic/immigration patterns are very scattershot. If you accept the "immigrants are bad drivers by virtue of inexperience" thesis, then the entire city is riddled with bad drivers and we're all equally hooped.

Yah, I'm sure those non coloured, whiteknuckling soccer moms driving their precious to school in the morning are model drivers in the snow.

In all fairness to the immigrant driver argument...

The most dumb stupid drivers in the city are the truck/suv driving white people that think since they have 4 x 4, that swerving through lanes and cutting people off is okay.

The trucks are the worst, for most of them the only weight they have in the back is the light skiff of snow still stuck to the bumper.

Me: Waiting for light.
Light: Green!
Truck 3 Cars Ahead: Slide sideways spinning the wheels, stop, do it again, stop, do it again stop..
Light: Yellow!
Truck: Finally make it through the intersection...
Light: Red!
Everyone: FFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUU.......

I coated this idiot in slush a couple years ago, after he felt it was smart to push it all into a big pile in the middle of the road. He tried to wave me to slow down, I aimed right for the pile and sped up.

Totally agree, same ones think overtaking and barreling down a crowded down hill slope at 60 is ok after freezing rain. Other people are going slow for a reason. Bye bye parked car.

I just can't figure out why anyone would think that shovelling onto the road is a smart idea. Some things grind my gears but I can understand the reasoning behind it. But this! This is beyond comprehension.
