and the "high powered" Hawaii offense sure doensn't look so good against an ACTUAL defense.
Seriously, this should end all talk of mid-majors being ranked number 1 for an undefeated season.
(I am glad Hawaii got a BCS berth though).

These announcers are horrible. They are making so many excuses for hawaii it's driving me crazy.
Also, the talk about the pressure of "one loss in the WAC" was bull s***, talkin about how there isn't as much pressure in big conferences because you can lose a game or two and still be in...what a bunch of absolute garbage.
Hawaii plays in a garbage conference, and beat pretty much no one this year (two teams with winning records, Fresno and Boise)....no need to make excuses, they were just plain overrated.

Yep..."overrated" conference allright.

Yeah they certainly beat quality competition. Illinois had no reason to be in a BCS game. Air Force is ok. South Florida comes from the equally overrated (at least this year) Big East, but I'll admit that Oregon is legit. Or State beat a 6-6 Maryland. BYU who knows how good they are.
So Oregon and USC are legit the rest of the conference is pretty stinky.

Damit.. Not unexpected though. It was like a CFL team going against a top tier NFL team.

This probably ends any discussion about a playoff. Not sure anyone wants to see 15 playoff games like the games we got today.

Anytime you deal with rankings you have to run up the score..I know the BCS computer doesn't take that into account but the voters sure remember (both for this year and next year's pre-season rankings.
I said this before, I think Georgia is in the conversation for best team in the country, but the stupid SEC and not taking out of conference records into account for their seeding basically screwed Georgia.

Your opinion I guess. I completely disagree.
I can say that about any conference in the country though. Pick two teams and say the rest are wannabes. The ONLY exception would be the SEC and then I have to inlcude 3 teams, but they have more teams to begin with compared to the PAC 10 or the Big 10 or the Big East. Its a circular argument.

um...if they wouldn't have fumbled the ball on the goal line the score would have been 21-17 with the illini having all the momentum. that's sports. don't kid yourself, illinois is a very solid team.

ILL 13th in the nation? They did not attempt ONE pass across the line of scrimmage in the first half. Then, I turned the game off - this is not great football. The forward pass is only a rumor to many teams.
I'm just not interested until they have a playoff. Anyone doubt USC would win a playoff?

What do you consider great football then? The NFL and every single team running the same offense?

Or if the USC fumble on their first drive of the game was properly called a fumble and an Illinois TD.
Immediately after Illinois' goal-line fumble, JD Booty's screen pass lateral was bouncing out of bounds and under a yard from the stripe it kicks back in McKnight's hands, in stride, and he takes it 60+ yards leading to a TD.
USC is a better team than Illinois. There's no denying that.
But in the Rose Bowl all the bounces went USC's way. Several tipped passes were caught for big 3rd down conversions and INTs. For Illinois to pull off the upset they would've needed to play their very best AND they would've needed lady luck on their side. Put that luck on USC's side and it's not surprising to see a beat-down like that.

They don't have to put a Big 10 team in the Rose Bowl. I know that's traditionally what it is, but since it moved to a BCS bowl all conferences should get a shot at it. I think Missouri would have been a better choice.

I would say both the SEC and Big 12 have great depth and it hurts them because so many teams are competitive that its hard to go through the conference undefeated.

Oklahoma got the automatic bid and Kansas was an at-large bid. A conference can only have 2 teams in BCS Bowl games, unfortunately.

I would certainly have put some other team against USC. I maybe watched 10 mins of that game if that. Way too boring. Ditto the Hawaii game. Not worth watching.
The Michigan/Florida game was just a great, great game. I gave up on the boys from Texas and then buzzed back in just in time to see them lining up for a field goal. Wisconsin/Missouri didn't capture my interest though the game was close score wise. Must have been when the hockey game was on.

wow, WVU couldn't have asked for a better defensive series to start the game, they look pumped for this one.
EDIT: 6-0 WVU after the first quarter, man, their defence really came to play. impressive start.
EDIT 2: 20-6 WVU at the half. wow
EDIT 3: 48-28 final for WVU...wow, OU must HATE the fiesta bowl. good on WVU for steppin up in the big game. nice.

I actually made a accidently bet on Kansas(2.40 Moneyline) for tonight, my stupidity paid off for once
