Training was certainly changed over the years. A lot of kids are staying in town for the rest of summer.

Tempting, with wineries like Hillside, Lake Breeze, La Frenz, Therapy, and Ruby Blues in that area. Another new option to consider is the District Wine Village near Oliver, which has 13 wineries, a brewery, and a restaurant wrapped around a central amphitheatre, allowing you to partake in a leisurely fashion (and even a shuttle from/to Kelowna if you don’t want to DD).

Can anyone be more specific about what stood out for Stromgren? Based on his statistics, I had pretty much written him off. Does anyone see an NHLer in him and why? What stands out?

All top notch spots, I'd also put Moraine and Roche right up there personally, it really is a top quality stretch of road worth exploring if you enjoy the odd glass. I haven't been to the "wine mall" in Oliver yet but would 100% be down to do that!

He’s got decent size although I’m guessing he needs some weight (maturity) to round out into a full package. I went to the sessions not focused on watching him at all but his hustle, smooth quick skating style and awesome shot had my attention pretty quickly. To me he looked super dialed in and went through his drills with focus and intensity. On top of that he looked like he was having a ball out there with a smile on his face. He was the furthest thing from being a sullen don’t give a crap prospect which I think was perhaps the consensus of most before the Camp. I’d describe his compete as being above average and he was noticed (in a positive way) every time he was out there. Lots of great players and prospects overall this year and to me he stuck out and was noticeable every time he was on the ice.

Yes you are, it's ok to admit it. The crazy thing is there is a good poster in you if you wanted to be. I am a prime example of being able to step back and take a look at your post history and work on being a better poster. For me it was being miserable in my personal life and bringing that attitude and confrontational bs here. I took everything personally and wore a thin skin. I like to think reflecting on why I was having so many disputes with so many posters and correcting those things have made me a better poster. It is ok to have a different view from the majority but how you present that opinion goes a long way on here.

I wonder which invitees Conroy thinks are on the radar for a contract (assuming an AHL deal, but possibly a 2-way deal if they think another team might sign them away). Conroy mentioned that there a couple they are kicking the tires on.
Based on posts here, maybe Duarte and Peer? Also, is Oliver Tulk a free agent, or is he still draft eligible?

I think Tulk goes back in the draft next year (but I could be wrong). It also didn't look like he was in the group pic on Sulphur mountain.

Just another example of why to never use Euro stats as a gauge, the SweHL in particular is very silly and possibly even political on how the older players get the ice time, I myself questioned the pick but was told that Stromgren was probably Brynas best winger on the team yet he played on the 4th line.

Yes, he will be draft-eligible again next year. However, like all undrafted junior players, there is a clause in the CBA that would allow him to sign an NHL contract this summer.
Because he went undrafted, he is now a free agent and could sign with any team before the start of the Hitmen's season (or, if he's in an NHL training camp, until he is sent back to the Hitmen). Any such contract would be an ELC and would be able to slide for 2 years. Once the Hitmen season begins (or he is returned to the Hitmen), this option is no longer available and he will be draft-eligible again.
This clause isn't used very often, but the Kings used it to sign Martin Jones from the Hitmen after he went undrafted as an 18 year-old.

The Flames could sign any of Tulk, Pilling, Chisholm, Cote, Mantei, McCoy, Kykkanen to ELCs even though they are eligible for next year's draft.
NHL CBA section 8.9:
Quote:
No Player shall be eligible for play in the League unless he:
(b) had been eligible for claim in the last Entry Draft, but was unclaimed, and:
(ii) had played hockey in North America the prior season and was under age 20 at the time of the last Entry Draft, and signed an SPC which was signed and registered with the League between the conclusion of the Entry Draft and commencement of the Major Juniors season (except that if such Player had signed an NHL try-out form, which was signed and registered with the League during the aforesaid time period, then the deadline for signing and registering with the League an SPC with such try-out Club shall be the commencement of the NHL Season).
|
So all the Flames need to do is sign them to an ELC before releasing them back to their respective major junior team or start of the NHL season if they sign them to a try out.
The last time the Flames took advantage of this was signing 18 year old Nick Schneider in 2015.
The college guys are usually harder to convince to turn pro in the summer especially if they NCAA eligibility left and they need times in the minors. Officially there is nothing preventing them from signing a pro contract in the summer but they rarely do. Most famous example for the Flames was Josh Jooris, who the Flames signed after the 2013 development camp.

He was either on the grey team yesterday or didn't skate. The grey team was always at the far end of the ice (the only team that didn't play in the close end) and my eyes couldn't read the name plates at that distance.
