If he is done playing in the NHL, I don’t think he will officially call it quits until after next year. He hasn’t made a ton of money playing so he wouldn’t walk away from 2.5 mil.

If he isn’t at training camp though I would guess you can write off the year.

I would promote Conroy, move Treliving upstairs and bring in Mitch Love. At least you have a whole team working together and Conroy can lean on Trelivings experience. Treliving knows the Flames personal and he would likely support Conroy"s vision. It is a lot easier to tell ownership that this is what Conroy would like to do, as opposed to Treliving asking for it for himself. I think working closer to Edwards in this way would allow a more dynamic team, that would lean away from a "win now" approach while embracing a more traditional team building concept.

Lots of problems and issue we see can be resolved through communication,; If Edwards believes in Treliving then he is going to support him. That is only good business. If Treliving were to move up, I believe he would have much more control over those areas that were difficult for him to access.previously. Moving up would be an excellent career move for Treliving and could lead to other opportunities in the future at the NHL level.
Enticing players to come here from elsewhere is why this team is constantly mediocre. This strategy works when you maybe need one more player to put your team over the top, but not actually as a strategy to build your roster. The narrative needs to shift from always signing or trading for external talent, to valuing what we have and developing it to the best the team possibly can.

Allow Wolf, Pelletier, Coronato, Duehr to play prominent roles on the team next season. I'm not a big proponent of gifting roles to players, but we have seen in small samples that all of these youngsters are NHL players (and better than several veterans on the team) and the time to let them run with it is now if this team is going to turn things around.

Also, if Lindholm and Backlund are not fully committed long term, you ship them out asap to maximize value as they are both on terrific deals for any contending teams and would likely return pretty meaningful draft capital or prospects.

To me this rumor combined with the news today makes me think it's Conroy as GM and Maloney as PoHO.

Just out of respect to Conroy and Treliving they would not announce Conroy as the GM replacement today.

Give it some white space so Conroy can come in and have his own day.

Plus, the team wouldn’t really be doing proper due diligence unless they consider some outside candidates, assuming anyone wants to apply.

Yeah I'm sure we will hear about some interviews and candidates...but honestly I'd be pretty surprised if it's not Conroy.

The only name I’ve thought of aside from him is Lombardi. Of course, I don’t know AGMs across the league.

Hopefully, if it is Conroy, I hope fans give him the benefit of doubt until after he's been given some time for results. Been reading a lot of comments already essentially trashing his ability despite his 8 years as AGM working under Treliving, and discarding Conroy as a simple, nice guy that talks a lot and nothing more. Will be nice if these posters can give the man a chance when he eventually gets an opportunity to be GM.

Not a great position to get your first gig as he's going to start off by making roster changes to make Sutter happy that are probably going to look pretty bad to the rest of the hockey world. He could end up as a great GM but he's going to have to weather the Sutter years without getting too much stink on him.

A GM making trades to please Sutter is horrifying. Pelletier for JOSH Anderson seems like a Sutter trade

Depends on how much money they have left over after re-signing Lucic and Lewis.

I listened to the Maloney interview with Steinberg and I certainly don't think he's hell bent on hiring a Sutter yes man out of that. I thought Maloney echoed what a lot of people think. I thought he was pretty realistic and seemed like a younger candidate was what he had in mind. Might be Conroy, but didn't sound like it was foregone to me.

Agree with this. I liked that he will be combing through the organization. This should be the hire seeing them through whatever path they take from here on. There’s a culture issue with this team, and it’s high time for the organization to take a full summer to address it. And if they pivot to retooling/rebuilding in some capacity (might be out of their control) we have a deep draft and some
excellent players to put on the trading block.

I kinda want Conroy as GM just to not feel so meh when it comes to Flames stuff. He’d be fun that’s for sure, and probably fun to play for too.

Not to mention his overall NHL experience, Both as a player and in the front office.

If Conny is the new GM, I hope they sell that cone of silence they've been using for better part of a decade. I need something to rant into.
