Doesn't really matter a wins a win and a lost is a lost.

Hate losing to the Oilers and in the last 3 years they are winning vs us at a 2:1 pace.

he said the Oilers were the better team implying they outplayed the Flames

obviously not what happened out there

surely there is more to discussing a game than

More goals=better team
Less goals=worse team

Flames had 77% possession FFS

Flames shot more, oilers had better chances (markstrom was fantastic tonight).

Oilers played their game. Oilers suck, it's basically mcdavid/draisatl and the pp.

The flames aren't any better than the oilers, as that recipe works just fine against this group.

Nothing I have seen this year leads me to believe that the Oilers wouldn't beat the flames in 5 again in a best of 7.

Looking forward to games against sj and maybe Anaheim to make us feel good about this team though....
Damn dude congrats you win most negative fan award again tonight. What a prize.

well said

that was a terrible game by the oilers, and par for the course for them lately. they were saved by the Flames lack of shooting prowess and that's it

that's a performance that gets you stomped (6 or 7-1 type blowout) by any team with a forward group that's producing

if they want to actually convince themselves they played a strong game, then by all means. that's great for us, because that means nothing will be addresse. the current game plan will assuredly bring very little success moving forward if that's how they plan to try to win games

I wish the Flames would send Coronato a Huberdeau lifetime highlight pack and offer him rookie max and say sign the contract and come score 20 goals like Caulfield in the second half of the season. Alas, that won’t happen. But I don’t think the Flames need to burn a pick to find Huberdeau a RW, it is already in the system.

As much as we can point to the refs, posts, bad luck, possession stats, or anything else, ELITE talent wins in this league

It was arguable if JG and MT were elite talent, but watching this team there is no player who would scare the opposition and have them game planning to stop them.

I just cant see any scenario where this team is a realistic threat? - (OK one scenario that Markstrum become prime Kipper)

This team could (should?) make the playoffs, but they are lacking elite talent to be dangerous. And that's effectively the Flames M.O. for the last 15 years

As much as the Cinderella run in 04 seemed impossible, they had the best goalie and arguably the best forward on that team. You can acquire/develop depth and character for a deep playoff run if you have the elite talent.

You can't be a serious threat with Coleman, Mangi, Backund and Lucic combining for 53 points and counting for 21 million on the cap half way through the season.

Expecting Kadri and Huberdeau to compete with the elite teams top players just isn't realistic. And we don't have a 30 minute a game top D anchoring the backend to fall back on

Really the only hope this team has is a goalie gets super hot and carries them. (ALA St.L and Binnington)

A handful of margaritas and then some 2/3am 90s dance music playlists pretty much solves all.

Flames have a woeful amount of offensive skill. Probably shouldn’t overpay a bunch of depth players, but who knows…

A pickle is a friggin pickle.

Huberdeau was the leading scorer on the presidents trophy winner last season. Kadri was third in scoring and 2nd in PPG on the cup champs.

I wish Kelly would piss off to Toronto and just stay there.

Yet another game against the Oilers where only one team gets called by the refs - it is clear to see - yet here we have Hrudey with his "both sides, many sides" schtick.

Game was lost on a stupid penalty and a failure to take advantage of a superb performance by Markstrom.

That's a cop-out. The Flames are a very underwhelming 18th in GF and every team below them in GF (except for the Sharks) has games in hand.

The Flames offense consists of:
  • One of the league's best playmakers
  • A player averaging 0.90 ppg (~75 pts/season) for the past four seasons
  • A player averaging 0.72 ppg (~60 pts/season) for the past decade
  • A player that whose ES production has ranked within the top 60 centers in the league for the better part of the past decade
  • A player averaging 0.61 ppg (~50 pts/season) for the better part of the past decade
  • A player that scored 57 goals in 199 games (~23 goals per 82 games) in his last three seasons prior to arriving Calgary
  • A player that scored 70 goals in 206 games (~27 goals per 82 games) in the past three seasons
  • Some young players with potential like Dube and Ruzicka
Teams with significantly less offensive talent than the Flames (e.g. Kraken, Islanders, Kings) are finding ways to score more goals and win games

Just because Sutter has been using puzzling player deployment (e.g. overplaying fourth liners, Ruzicka on the 4th line, etc.) and is playing a style that doesn't fit the makeup of the team, doesn't mean that the team doesn't have enough talent to score goals.

Refs are the problem.
If there was only one factor that influenced outcomes, it would usually be able to formulate a solution. We clearly need to solve our offensive deficiencies. That is something we should be able to solve. But that was not our only issue last night.

The game was not called evenly, but I can't think of anyone in this thread that has placed this 100% on the officiating.

You're consistently poking your finger in peoples' faces by misrepresenting their arguments.

Is anyone surprised by this team anymore? Where’s the source for stats of posts hit? This team is agonizing with its ability to hit so much iron. They could be building so many sky scrapers and in the iron workers union but sadly are hockey players.

The fix is in. The oilers are anointed by the league in comparison to Murray edwards no new stadium motley crew.

I think this is a good year to be bad. I’m not paying the price to bring in scoring for this moribund group.

I agree with that one poster get coronato familiarized with Huberdeau asap. Sign him after their season. Get this guy in the lineup asap. It’s probably how you entice him to play here.
Guaranteed top line spot. For what it seems like MC is a reliable two way player and considering his goal scoring instincts he could be a game breaker amidst this morose cast of misfit toys.

Anyway flames have a valiant effort but not enough to beat top end talent and a game script.

Keep playing hard but this team needs more blue chip talent. This is a good year to do so. Come back next year and maybe regroup. Not enough California road trips to make this team good enough.

Good to see marky playing Well vs the oilers group. What a delusional group. Who wants to play that way as a model? Teams that lose in the second round that’s who. Anyway mcdavid will be leaving in two and a half years anyway.

Why do the flames make so many average goalies look like top tier talent? All Swedish no finish. Sad to see prime years of veteran players wasted this way but this is salary cap hockey: can’t fill all your holes. Hopefully tre sees what his best laid plans have bore and it’s not good enough. He needs to rethink scoring at the pro level. I will give him a pass due to gaudreau and tachuck but he needs to find some finishing talent quickly.

I believe in the coronation of coronato.

Oilers ain’t ending Canadas cup drought with that squad of simpletons. Vegas, Dallas, Colorado, Boston , Tampa and Carolina feast ona weak dcorps like that. Edmonton sucks but they have two game breakers. It’s enough to beat us.

The Kraken rested after four days during Xmas break can be at a disadvantage. They won't be focused.
