It also might be that you are not assessing this properly.

Kadri is a star player and a UFA, they don't typically come cheap plus Calgary has carries tax and location issues. Not sure what you were expecting for a guy that just ripped 87 points?

Oh man. This move provides the Flames with the best center depth it's had in decades but the cost is steep with this cost and term. Bit of a love/hate move for me but I suppose I will just hop on the roller coaster and see where it goes.

Time to run over that pathetic team up the highway.

If we get to see that and some deep runs, it makes these moves all worth it.

I'm not emotionally committed to anything. Father time comes for everyone. Kadri will not be immune, and a 7 year contract is simply putrid.

Up on Capfriendly now. No details confirmed other than the $7 million AAV.

I think that is a reasonable AAV. Rumours at the start of the UFA season suggested some teams would be offering more than $8 million.

We are all in for the Sutter unfinished business tour but could be an ugly rebuild in 4-5 years

Kadri has been a star for exactly one season in the last 5 years. He has been very good defensively, but there will be a massive drop off, if not immediately.

Flames paid Monahan that to play on the 4th line

So any generational talents expected to be in the 2028-2030 drafts?

One thing that is awesome about this signing is the way Kadri has always stepped up when playing McDavid. He did it in Toronto extremely well, isn’t afraid to give that extra shot after the whistle, finish his checks, etc.

Yeah I don't really see that happening, not with Sutter at the helm. Back half could be dicey I agree but this is fine if you're gunning for it. Restores the pest piece lost by Tkachuk, I kind of like it to be honest.

I'm not complaining about the deal - far from it, but I think Lee is the oldest guy on that list and he signed his deal at 28 or 29 and therefore will be 35 when it's done. and the others are younger.

I don't think anyone doubts Kadri is a $7M player this year. But this contract goes to age 37.

So we got a player who was on pace for 100 points last season for $7M per! That makes me cautiously optimistic. Even if the production drops to 65 points it's still a value deal.

We got a massive upgrade at our weakest position, and we might have to pay the piper in 3-4 years, but this team is going to be fun to watch for the next few years. The best part is that we have a lot of options both at forward and on D. Can't wait for the season to start... that feeling alone makes this signing worth it because it's the entertainment business.

In 4 - 5 years we could all be watching from our government-sanctioned wellness zorbs dealing with the 17th wave of gorillamumps and getting updates on our VR headsets from a Friedman hologram.

The future is a fickle and uncertain thing. I'd rather enjoy right now.

What teams moves do you actually like? Honest question?

This.

There were people here saying they would stomach an 8AAV contract, and his camp was expecting 9+ at the outset. You always overpay with free agents. Given the rising cap to come, 7 million is not the albatross it once was. But the Flames will have to use their remaining cap very wisely.

87 points in 71 games and he didn't play with their top guys

Kadri is a late bloomer.... similar to Mangiapane he never had a major role but was always a really good player despite the stats.

We just signed a legitimate and proven top 6 centre, for similar money that Monahan and Lucic each make. The biggest hole in our franchise for as long as I can remember. And some people think it’s too much? That’s ####ing hilarious.
