Tkachuk and Gaudreau play with a regular season intensity but can't magnify it in the post-season with consistency. Very frustrating.
Draisaitl as well.
Then you have Hyman playing an incredible series and the great pickup of a big body like Kane to give them another weapon. Heck, even RNH was good this series.
Markstrom played like sh*t in this series but we still got screwed on that disallowed goal.
fyp
Game 1 the team gave him a 5 -0 lead and he let in softies after softies after softies
Game 2 the team didn't play as well as game 1 but he let in softies after softies and did not bail the team out.
Game 3 same thing over and over again.
Game 4, he let in a OMG goal by misplaying the puck, then couldn't stop anything shooting at him, all the Oilers need to do is get puck on net and it's in. AND, the team tied the game at 3, and he could not stop the puck without giving out rebound.
Game 5 Team gave him a 2 goal lead, 2 softies. Team came back and gave him another 1 goal lead, soon after, he let the Oilers score to tie the game.

I know Markstrom had awful numbers and didn't do enough, but I'm way more disappointed in our team defense. Giving up multiple odd man rushes while holding onto a 1 or 2 goal lead? Brutal.
Zero boxing out in front on several goals, and several direct turnovers for goals.
Markstrom wasn't good enough, but I think it was more of a by-product of our awful defending.

What can you say. The Oilers were the better team. Sucks to say this but it’s the truth. They deserve to move on. I tip my hat them. You all think the Avs will kill them but I don’t think so. Mcdavid is on another level. It’s going to be a hell of a series
This series clearly showed you do NOT tie up $20M in Johnny and Tkachuk.
The clear and obvious path is re-sign Johnny and trade Tkachuk for the best package of younger cost controlled options you can find, preferably quality over quantity and preferably a C or D.
Any other path taken with those 2 would be terrible so knowing this incompetent organization we'll let Johnny walk and sign Tkachuk to a stupid contract.
Flames have to sign gaudreau. If Gaudreau doesn't sign, this isn't a playoff team.
The plan isn't to build a cup winner it's to make a team that can make the playoffs.
My guess is Treliving and his bosses would be ecstatic to bring this exact team back if they could next year.
If Gaudreau stays, they gotta rethink this whole thing. That Hanafin and gaudreau exchange that cost them the OT winner is just an exclamation point. These guys will get you to the playoffs but aren't the kind of guys that can achieve anything as the go-to guys. They're definitely capable of winning a cup but in lesser roles (Hanafin and Anderson aren't top pairing guys, gaudreau and tkachuk aren't top line players in the postseason).
The NHL is a joke. The rulebook changes every ####ing game. Why do I even bother watching this #### I'm so mad about this. You can youtube countless goals that counted that had more of a kicking motion then the goal that was overturned tonight.
Here's a couple
How are either of these good goals, but in some planet our goal tonight wasn't?
Guess who the ref is on that goal that counted against us. Almost Every time he refs we lose, it's not even debatable any more.

No, that was a lot more like the 1990 playoff loss to L.A. where the Flames had a goal in game 6 that the league didn't allow.
Well not the league there was no review of goals back then, Denis Morel says he never saw Gilmour score, cause Kelly Oiler Lover Hrudey took his glove and flung it out of the net, then lied it never crossed the line. If there was video replay the OT goal would have stood.
Well. That was a bunch of bulls***. But we knew that sort of thing would happen against the Oilers. It’s why I was hoping the Kings would pull through.
I’ll say this - McDavid deserves the Hart. He is absolutely the MVP to his team. They would be absolute trash without him and he is on a different planet right now. He made our whole top line look like they play in a lower tier.
