With this now officially being a pandemic, it's going to be weird to see how this all plays out.
Corporations have set Pandemic response plans, and now it's time they get executed.

No real issue for Flames home games. AHS says only 14 cases in Alberta and all travel related. Should be able to contain here. We'll see if that changes.

There is a conference call today with all NBA owners, and another one scheduled for tomorrow with all NBA GM's to discuss their options.
I would presume Bettman is doing the same thing with NHL owners and GM's.

There is very little chance (actually more like zero chance) that it is contained here in Calgary (or Canada in general).
It will follow the exponential growth curve that it has everywhere else... because science.

So I heard on the radio the Blue Jackets have implemented a no share water bottle policy, as well as every player getting their own hotel rooms.
I wonder if they're going to restrict celebrations after a goal and a win too. Don't hug each either, stay 1.5M away from one another at all times.

If a team member is infected you're screwed anyways.
Separate hotel rooms and bottles won't prevent that. But eh.. go ham.

Great move by Columbus, as offering an option for those worried (or ill) to opt-out now is a huge advantage for a few reasons
- limit the probability of bringing the virus into your building
- quell fears of fans wondering what's coming
Nevermind keeping your PR team out of the fire I'm sure a few teams will find themselves in as they play chicken with cancellations.
It's also worth noting that they've found the virus has been able to live up to 9 days... so someone coughing on the back of a seat would be ridiculous in most of these arenas. Giving anyone with even a slight cough zero obligation to go to a hockey game right now is a really smart (and generous) move.
Also, if everyone bought in aren't we only talking about 2-3 weeks or a month of downtime for this to... pass by?

Sure but that same clause would I assume allow the TV networks to not provide payment if the games were not played and would not really be relevant to a situation where the NHL refused to play the games with no fans unless there was a health reason why groups of 100-150 people could not be in an arena. Hard to envision a situation where you would need more than 120 people in an arena to play a game (40 people per team and 8 tv and radio announcers and the requisite cameramen) so there would be no health reasons to avoid playing before empty stadiums to satisfy contractual obligations under the tv contract.

No licking other players. Marchand has filed a grievance.

Ha looks like someone went down to the Fruit of the Loom store and bought like 3,000 of the 6 pack of white shirts. Lol.
Hope they got the bulk discount.

Those two measures would actually go a long way towards preventing transmission. Along with thorough sanitization of team transports, equipment, locker rooms, and extra care around team meals.
You can be in close proximity to a carrier and not get infected. If an NHL player does contract it, they may not be able to play hockey for a while, but it's unlikely to put them in an ICU bed.
Teams could also stay on top of things with increased physical monitoring of players. It is impossible and impractical to officially test players every few days, but careful monitoring of other vital signs could help raise early caution flags for individuals.

Is that picture from the last time they made the playoffs...in 2012? Not sure how that has anything to do with today.

I used to watch Monday Nitro in 1995 before the NWO came along and made WCW popular. My Monday Night Raw buddies would make fun of me and claim that everyone in the audience were carboard cutouts, and life sized dummies. I know fake people when I see them. You are bang on.

The AHS isn't even looking for community spread, so I have some reservations about ability to contain.

The Blue Jackets will join the Sharks now as either playing without fans, or playing elsewhere.

I thank those who have already chosen to limit large events in response to yesterday's recommendation. For the others, there will be an order.
