Flames win in OT!

- The GM has made bad moves etc etc- no GM is going to bat 100%, he has to make calculated risk / reward moves. I pretty sure many fanbases wished they had Treliving or someone of his quality at the helm (VCR, Edm, NYI etc)

Actually, the Flames are currently fourth in the Division. But everyone is bunched so closely together that it doesn’t really matter at this point. I still believe that Calgary will finish in second place.
The Pac. Div. is ridiculous this year. A lot of posters including myself thought there would be a tail-off by SJ and LA that just hasn’t happened yet. I still believe it is coming—if not this season, then in 2018-19.

Pretty soon we’ll be speaking of Toews as Monahan Lite.

It is unfortunate (and annoying) that some can be so negative after a quality win, but it is what it is at this point. Anyone who has been here for some time has seen CP change over the last few years. The year we were the comeback kids under Hartley, CP was lots of fun. The following season when our goaltending was atrocious, you could see CP start to change as more and more negativity began to enter so many threads. Yes, it was an extremely frustrating season to watch, no doubt. However, since those two seasons, it's almost as if people's expectations of the team and individual players on the team has blown up to the point where every misplay is scrutinized under intense microscopes. Somehow, we've all become the world's foremost experts on hockey where we can analyze things to death and become world class critics. I'm sure we'd even give HF Boards a run for its money on some days. I agree, people are free to voice their opinions though it would appear some people here thrive on negative. I bet they have vinegar running through their veins.
I don't tend to get too low after losses or get too high after wins. I would love to see the Flames play perfect games every game. Though two teams on the ice try to force mistakes and then capitalize. Perfection does not happen. Players will make mistakes and unforced errors. We've seen enough evidence of that this season. Some more costly than others. And of course, when these arise, a few CP posters can't help but voice their, let's say, extreme displeasure. Listen, we could have one of the old team Canada Olympic rosters and some here would still find fault in every other play, shift, miss, mistake, missed save, lack of effort, emotion, etc. We can't satisfy everyone.
I do miss the quality posters who seem to have taken a bit more of a break from CP these days. The negative ones? Meh, let 'em drink their coffee and complain to anyone who wants to agree or respond to their comments. Negative comments with an opening for discussion is welcomed, as far as I know. The drive by salvos launched here and there are becoming almost funny given the reputation some develop here. I still enjoy coming in to CP to read. Let's just rise above the petty. We're better than that.
Now, as far as last night's game goes, great job Flames! A nice win against another team desperate for points. There are no easy games and / or points. The Flames just don't seem to make it easy on themselves. Those are a big 2 points. Keep 'em coming.
Go Flames Go!

It is getting harder to be enthused about reading CP when the Flames play a very solid game with a win and you read the post game thread and it sounds like we lost 6-2. I can understand the negativity by some when we loose a stinker but why do some have to make every post sound like the end of the world is here? Great game Flames. Worked hard and outplayed them especially in 3rd. Could have easily been 5+ goals.

It would be really nice if LA and Anaheim suddenly forgot how to hockey for the rest of Feb so we can all breathe a little easier.

The Vegas thing is frustrating as hell. As Flames fans, it feels like we've waited a lifetime for Calgary to ice an elite Cup contending team, while Vegas is gifted one right out of the gate in their first season. So freakin' annoying.

This.
The people that harp on Monahan not being a true #1 Centre or that this team can't win with him in that role are out to lunch.
By their standard (if they actually stopped and put some thought into it) there's about five true #1 Centres in the league.
He's young and still getting better and is incredibly clutch. It was laughable watching Debil-downer cry he was invisible in the playoffs last year when he was at a goal a game in a tight low scoring series.
He might not drive the play like the Crosbys of the world, but he has a winger who does. His ability to finish to the point of being one of the most clutch game-winning goal scorer in the NHL very much makes up for it.
The anti-Monahan crowd around here are a sad, sorry bunch.

It's actually funny as hell. How many teams around the league and their fans are looking at Vegas and wondering what in the world is going on with this team and how come my team isn't this good? Imagine being a Buffalo, Arizona or Edmonton fan? Yeah, I feel ill just thinking about it too.

"Gifted"? I don't think "gifted" is the right word to describe how Vegas has assembled a competitive team. I think that "admirably" would be far more appropriate.

You are right, i didn't refresh my browser this morning, so the Kings game had not been accounted for. I also agree is probably doesn't matter, the cream usually rises to the top in the last third of the season, I hoping for a home stretch like last year, (20,9,1) which would translate to a 101 pt season, which would result in a very liking 2nd place div (with an outside chance or 1st or 3rd).

This is me as well.
Clearly writing game stories I have almost a 20 year history of being pretty neutral and not getting too high or too low.
When they reeled off 7 straight wins I was pointing out often that some of their wins were games that they didn't play as well as losses in the previous segment where they deserved better.
I get damn mad when the team plays like hot garbage, and even more furious when it looks like they're not trying. Last year when they came out of the gates brutal I was as upset as anyone, but didn't like the idea of firing a coach two months into his hire ... that's what bush league franchises do.
So this year I wish they had better results but with a young core I'm way more interested in the way they are playing as I think it will come through either this month, next month, in the playoffs, or sadly next season.
One thing I'm trying to get my head around though is the opposite type of fan. Who am I to say you can't be up or down after games? No point in running around arguing with fans that are annoyed and down after a game and they want to vent.
So I'm doing my best to avoid that brawl as much as I can ... failing sometimes as well.

This is from my game story last night ...

Curtis Lazar had two third period shifts, Matt Stajan had five, Hathaway two, Troy Brouwer six, Bartkowski four, Andrew Mangiapane one, as Glen Gulutzan leaned heavily on the top two lines and top two defense pairings.

No, they were GIFTED the most lenient expansion draft rules ever, combined with the fact that they were the only expansion team selecting players in the draft.
Go back and look at the garbage all the other expansion teams had to choose from.
