What I've realized, reading through this, is that just like the great gun debate, people are seemingly intentionally obtuse about facts and reality on things they just have no idea about, yet still feel the need to convey their opinion as that of the majority and correct. Save me, save me from my common house palm, and my ficus plant because thats as likely to be a problem as anything that is proposed.
People already grow high maintenance plants in their homes. There's a handful of hydroponic and grow supply stores in Calgary selling high wattage lighting, water supply stuff, etc. Lets not forget there's tons of current toxic household plants (to people and pets) grown in homes all over the place, I would guess everyone grew up in a house with those plants nearby. So any concern about danger to people or pets would be null, and any concern for "never before seen grow operation setups" would also be null. Grandma Beatrice in the inner city is already running lights on her tomatos

so if everyone starts growing it outside once it's legal, I suppose it would be easy for me to start stealing people's pot plants to make some easy cash on the side.
heck people steal tomato and strawberry plants now, for two recent examples.
figure a lot of people will have their pot go missing. some probably by their own kids who will then say "I dunno what happened to it"

Growing outside in Calgary would be pretty stupid. Your grow window would be so small as to be not worth it compared to indoors.

Wasn't there talk of not allowing outdoor growing in Alberta? I see news articles on it, but the government legislation doesn't mention it:
http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/calgar...abis-1.4327491
So maybe it was just a proposal?

Basically growops are trying to turn homes into a greenhouse (snicker) and a typical house isn't designed to deal with that kind of humidity.
Growing a few pot plants is no different to growing/having a few plants in your house that you likely already have anyways. There is nothing inherently dangerous about growing a pot plant in your home.

Yeah, I always just assumed due to our climate that you had to grow them that way. Thanks to the more knowledgeable posters here I think pretty much any concern I had is gone.

I've heard Auto flowering strains could finish in time outdoor in Calgary.
I thought I read that outdoor wasn't going to be allowed once legalization, cool, id be more inclined to try outdoors, sounds easier and cheaper

I suspect you would have a theft problem if you grew it outside

C45 is looking ridiculous it’s not legalization. Thc limits? Stiffer penalties? They also think people will pay up to $14/g.. they’re doing a great job increasing the value on the street.
Long live the black market

Video monitoring could probably provide a few good laughs. If people steal Christmas decorations and tomato plants just imagine the excitement over this.
In BC part of the legislation is your personal plants at home can’t be grown in view of a public space.

I know the smoke shop in Strathmore has been stalking up on supplies for DIY growers. They have a collapsible tent like structure that looks like a mini grow-op, though its $900. They have different types of fertilizer, lights, etc. Never really considered growing before but could be kinda fun actually.

So what? They follow you home after your purchase?

They have full on automated machines that would be a much better option IMO. It looks like a small fridge. Plant some seeds, close the door, the machine takes it from there. Automatically fertilizes and waters and adjusts lighting. Follows a pre-set template of sorts. Looks like a really good idea.

None. It is being voted on in the Senate today, I think with amendments. Then it will go back to the house. If the house is OK with the amendments, the government will accept it and at that point pick a date. The provinces have asked for 8-12 weeks.

Are they really putting in THC limits?
I was hoping this industry would get ridiculously Frankenstein and basically just start selling sticky lumps of trichromes.

The Senate has approved the Trudeau government’s landmark legislation to lift Canada’s 95-year-old prohibition on recreational cannabis — but with nearly four dozen amendments that the government may not entirely accept.Bill C-45 has passed in the upper house by a vote of 56-30 with one abstention, over the objections of Conservative senators who remain resolutely opposed.
