If you look at their stat lines there really isn't much separating the two of them. Size, age, skill set, right shots, similar stat lines, etc...

In which way specifically? I realize some of you guys are extremely confident about your hockey knowledge, but as a guy with a partial brain I would appreciate some level of detail when your making your arguments.

He's not better by a large margin (neither really drive play), but Larsson throughout his career has been much better at driving play

How much play does a defencemen who struggles to hit 20 points drive exactly?

Why do you think one got Taylor Hall and the other got a third round pick with money being retained?

Larsson is a d zone specialist, quite good on the boards and in front. He separates players from pucks well. He supports and gets it out of the zone. He's kind of like a less good version of Regehr.
Stone is good at all of that, just not as good. Mind you, if he is putting up 30 points to Larsson's 15 on a consistent basis, it wouldn't be crazy to say you'd prefer Stone.

Nobody is saying Stone is better than Larsson, but some are saying that if you think they're even close you are stupid or something. Well then smartypants, explain to us "half brainers" why Larsson is soooooo much better than Stone please. We'll be waiting for a long time though, because other than "Larsson drives the play a bit more than Stone has" is all the Larsson is way better than Stone crowd really has. That and he was drafted 4th overall once upon a time.

Well those trades did involve the same two GMs who executed the Dougie Hamilton (1st, 2nd, 2nd) and Griffin Reinhart (1st, 2nd) trades at the same draft, so i wouldn't put much stock into that argument either.

Stone was a drag on possession on a terrible possession team. Larsson was a boost for possession.

Both are 2nd pairing guys, Stone is trying to re-establish that however after knee surgery and a disastrous season IMO. Personally don't know who is better, probably Larsson, but the the gap isn't shocking. The question wouldn't have been so ridiculous last season when Larrson was a Devil and Stone was Coyote.
As for your question... well one is for a pending UFA who again, coming back from knee surgery after an awful year. The other was a overpayment by a desperate GM. Though honestly it might not have been that big of an overpayment as Taylor Hall isn't a player I swoon over.
Calgary has the big three in Giordano, Brodie, Hamilton, three legitimate top pairing guys. Stone has solidified that 2nd pairing with Brodie and that's all I honestly care about.
Klefbom and Larsson are good but aren't top pair guys either together or themselves. The rest are garbage, and Darnell Nurse wishes he had the hockey IQ of Dion Phaneuf.

Larsson is waaaaay better than Stone. It's not anyone being a smarty pants, it's watching them play.
Seriously, these last two pages are embarassing and the type of posts that end up on other boards making fun of us similar how the ATL makes fun of other teams posters.

This is a terrible argument and you know it. Much lesser players than Hamilton have been traded for more than a 1st and 2 2nds.
Since Stone has been in Calgary, he's been on a 40 point pace while also playing very good shutdown hockey. He wasn't nearly as good in Arizona but you cant ignore the past when deciding to make decisions about the future. If Stone re-signs next year and posts 40 points and plays good hockey with Brodie then you can start talking about a guy who's better than Larsson.
Also I find it really hilarious that this Oiler fan is listing off defensemen he'd rather have and he actually ignores their most promising guy in Benning. Who'd have figured that a guy related to one of the dumbest GMs who was also dumb enough to choose Edmonton as an FA would actually be such a smart hockey player. He'd be an absolutely perfect fit on the Flames' d for a long time. Too bad.

See, this is fair. There is not much separating these players really. Not enough for someone to be a dick about anyone questioning there respective value to their teams anyways.

Where's your argument again? You're in Derek Wills territory when it comes to evaluating Flames players.
show me how Stone is close to Larsson in the 8 games he's played as a Flame.
