What if John Scott finds out he has actual talent after playing 3 on 3 and goes on to win the Art Ross next year.....

This is going to be the best all-star game ever. Simply because of how mad everybody is. It's all the media is going to talk about. For me, that's what makes it interesting. And as for the 3 vs 3 format, do those of you who are mad that this makes a mockery of it, do you really think the players are going to give it their all still? No way. It's going to be the same simple game with the players coasting along tic tac toe passing game you see at the 5 vs 5 format from years past.
The game itself is going to suck. But at least having Scott there gives us something to talk about instead of the same ol' ''All star game is boring'' rehashed arguments.

Everybody knows the best all-star lineup is one skinny, one medium and two fatties.

I think the 3 on 3 is an improvement to the format, as the all-star game is inevitably a no-hit, breakaway parade. At least with 3 on 3, that will occur more naturally and, while it might be a gimmick, it is likely a gimmick that will stay for overtime for the foreseeable future.
For the John Scott voters/supporters, I guess I don't see the joke. Do you want him to embarrass himself and fail miserably? Do you want him to score, as if that means anything in a 13-11 game?
Clearly he was voted in as a gag, but is it more or less funny if everyone voted for, say, Matt Cooke?

I've yet to see skilled hockey at the Olympics. The defenders are top notch and goalies are great too. Olympics imo has been an extension of NHL play, with all 4 lines being equally as good.

If I am the NHL, I don't let the fans vote. I put the best teams together based on what I think would get the most eyes on the game.

If the NHL wants to get rid of this "problem" while still allowing a fan vote, they just need to come up with a list of 100 or so players (3-4 from each team).

Not letting the fans vote denies millions of webpage hits and all the ad revenue that comes with it.

Firstly, no one goes 100% at the all star game. So people whining about the "best on best" being watered down and such is simply nonsense. Guys don't try anyway.
Secondly, even the gooniest goon, and pluggiest plug can dangle the puck and sauce a pass like none of us could ever dream of. The difference is, superstars in the NHL can do it under huge pressure and small spaces, but given the open ice, John Scott will look fine.

Why? Are you concerned you might not have the best players at the ASG and therefore the product might be watered down? No one tries at the bloody ASG anyway. I consider myself a pretty serious hockey fan. I typically don't watch the ASG. Will I watch this year? I am at least interested this year.

3 on 3 will cause less floating IMO. Too much room for embarrassment.

I hadn't even considered this but you're totally right. You can't be anywhere near as lazy in this; with only 3 guys on the ice for your side it will be incredibly obvious if you're just mailing it in. I know to some extent players don't care, but there has to be some sense of pride involved, I assume.
Or maybe that's naive; I guess we'll see!

I love how everyone hates this game...yet sure as #### there will be a game thread and most of us will be tuning in to see JG do something awesome
Its nothing to get too bent outta shape about sure but really some people need to get a life...you really have that much time on your hands to constantly vote to "troll" the NHL
People are talking about the ASG and their website got 10x the hits because of this...you showed them

I'll probably tune in for some of this cheesy event. Skills comp I'm more interested in even though most the guys are doggin it and could care less. 3 on 3 might be interesting. All in all I'm sure it will be the same old mediocre fromage fest but hey it is what it is.

It was obvious in 5 on 5 when the guys were dogging it. You think 3 on 3 will change that? I don't.
There will be no back checking IMO.

Haha, girlysports being girlysports. Hey, maybe it's not a bad thing that an MLB team was able to vote in their entire baseball team as the All Star team so the league had to step in and wipe out millions of votes.
Not everything needs a devil's advocate opinion.

if they dog 3on3, then I'll admit that no one cares about this troll job and it's what the NHL deserves.
but I still have a sliver of hope that maybe 3on3 will actually be an intense and exciting event. I mean, there is no hitting regularly in 3on3, so you won't miss that. If they keep it very short for playtime rather than a full game, MAYBE the athletes will actually give it a bit of effort and showcase their skill....the whole point of this event.
If they dog it though, I'll be turning it off and the NHL can get trolled every year, who cares?

i just think whatever the fans do is correct. If the fans are making a joke of a sport it's because the sport is a joke.
I don't think it's that bad. It got people excited about Donaldson! Like Don Cherry!

It wasn't my notion - I heard it from either Hrudey or Freidman, I forget which. But I agree with it, and I think that it's way easier to dog it 5 on 5. you just let someone else lug the puck, then you coast in for the easy rebound or drop pass.
