Source says nine Wildrose MLAs will cross floor to PC government. #ableg

The incumbents
edit: but here's the question; if you're a red tory in a moderate riding who's suddenly being pushed to the backbenches by Prentice's new favorites, would you jump to the Liberals, for a chance for a prominent critic portfolio on the official opposition?

So are the PC's voting to approve this internally?
Because it would be hilarious if Prentice instructed them behind closed doors to vote against it. Smith exposed at no cost to his party.
That would truly deserve one of these.

No, I don't think you do. I think you stick it out as a PC backbencher because there will undoubtedly be an election in the spring.

I have a B.A. (Hon) in Political Science, and concluded a long time ago . ..
Politicians are no good.
I'm sure there a few great public servants. The rest may suffer from various personality disorders.

True, and when you really think about it, it's hard to know who to jump to, when it's impossible to say which party has the best shot at opposition... unless...
okay here's the next twist in this story: 6 red tory PCs band together and jump to the Alberta Party. AP goes from 0 seats to official opposition.

I was a long time supporter of the PCs. Then Redford came in and I threw my hands in the air. That's when I made the switch to supporting the Wild Rose.
Not sure who to support now. They all just seem like they're looking out for their jobs and nothing else.
As a voter it's very confusing, annoying and disheartening.

Not to mention the terrible corruption evident in a party in power for decades without a serious challenger.
Finally the Wild Rose party was able to offer voters a real alternative to the PC's; an ability to wipe the slate clean and eliminate some of the entitlement and arrogance present in the ruling party. Instead they could end up reinforcing this and adding to the problem. I have a hard time believing Prentice will be able to address these issues easily, although maybe inserting the new Wild Rose members into cabinet seats is an attempt at a first step in that direction.

Wildrose saw the stupidity of the average Albertan, voting in PC's time and time again. Getting shut out in the by elections, they could see the writing on the wall.
I don't blame them for jumping ship.
But I also don't respect them.
I think the grassroots base of Wildrose has too many right wing extemists, who still believe that the earth was created 3,000 years ago.
Those people need to be kicked out of the party before the party can gain any sort of legitimacy.

Right ... it couldn't possibly have anything to do with them being a rural party with no actual plans.
It's just because people are stupid.

No, no, no. They think it's at least 6000 years old. A much more reasonable proposition.

Everyone and their dog, including local and national media, has acknowledged that the Wildrose was the first real opposition Alberta had seen in ages, and had done an admirable job as the official opposition. This is including a multitude of contrary policies, documents and details, much of which Prentice himself has adopted into his own agenda.
The strange assertion they had "no actual plans" seems to indicate a lack of attachment to the reality of the situation.

"Real opposition" doesn't mean they had any solutions, just that they were gaining support. Show me their plans, because I've read their platform twice over a 12 month period and it's seriously fluff. A bunch of "rawr ... MLA pay, government pay" small potatoes and then some mystery plan to account for the rest.
Lack of attachment to reality is thinking that they had any clue how to fix this province financially.
They're a joke.

Did you every actually go to their website, look at the what we believe 12 page document that talks about their ideas of the budget some of them that Prentice even admits that the PC's are adopting? They have multiple platform discussion white papers for the budget, infrastructure, education, health care and more. Its more then MLA pay and government pay stuff.
Seriously.
Their platform section is pretty much on par with what you see from any provincial or even federal opposition website.

It's really easy to say that anyone other than the PC party has no "solutions" because no one aside from the PC party has been allowed to implement any. Your argument is simplistic, and trite.
However, NOW we might see what the Wild Rose would do in power, because they kind of are.
Looks like the Joke is now a part of the ruling party. How does that sit with you?
