I'd be happy to give him a 3 year deal! I'll always want to see him back in a Flames jersey.

Does Dreger ever report anything that doesn't say the Leafs are included?
I'm not saying they aren't in on Boyle..but I think he only reports it if the Leafs are or he thinks they may be involved.

“@Real_ESPNLeBrun: Still some 8-10 teams on Vanek radar. Minnesota among them but as noted last week, not interested in long term deal.”
“@Real_ESPNLeBrun: Told that Vanek is not put off by that, still likes Min as an option. But may also get huge offer elsewhere Tuesday so he'll have to decide”

I wonder if Calgary would make a huge 2 year offer to Vanek in the $8-$9M per range?
He brings a ton of offense and in a short term deal doesn't hurt the flames at all. I doubt he goes back to buffalo leaving Calgary and Florida as bottom feeder teams with crazy money to spend.
If he wants to chase a cup he will need to take a payday in the $5.5-$6.5M range for 4-6 years

Miller signs a big money, long term deal in Vancouver. . . .
Miller struggles behind a sub par team. . . .
Fans turn on Miller due to him not living up to his big money, long term deal. . . .
Miller wants out but there is no team that wants him, that he wants, and will meet Vancouver's demands. . . .
"My contract sucks."

He can't. He burnt all his bridges with the NHLPA when he became a mouthpiece (and a nasty one) for the owners in the lockout.
The only reason he constantly spouts leafs "insider" news is because Nonis is his cousin. It's probably the only reason that TSN still employs him.

Benoit Pouliot and Tom Gilbert are two players I could see the Flames pursuing hard.

He was pretty terrible in Nashville, and mediocre in NY.

Del Zotto has all the tools, but unfortunately he also seems to be a tool. I can't see our management going after a player who might have attitude problems.
If the price was next to nothing it would be hard to turn him down. With the lack of D, a potential 2nd pairing guy like MDZ is prototypical for our needs. If this were EA Sports I might try & flip Byron for him.

I dont believe they're walking away because of performance issues though...moreso this comes down to $$ with Nashville as it often does. Just to qualify him would cost them 3 million this season alone, and to get him done longer term would be a whole lot more and likely a NMC of sorts.
After adding a 5 million dollar a year guy on Saturday and looking at their pipeline of dmen coming up, this one simply comes down to picking their spots as to where to allocate their budget.
MDZ is a pretty good player and absolutely fits what the Flames are trying to do....but it comes down to what the scouts say and what $$ he is really seeking long tem.

Do want Miller in Vancouver.
He doesn't improve them that much so anything that eats up a bunch of their cap space (possible ending up a toxic contract ala Luongo) and keeps the Canucks merely a middling drafting bubble team while their assets continue to depreciate is a-ok in my book.

Del Zotto apparently is a partier, which is why 2 teams have soured on him quickly. Doubt he'd be a good fit here based on Burke and Treliving's emphasis on character.

Exactly. Maybe he's just a bad apple? I agree with Jiri, not worth it.
