I feel bad for the person that has to replace him. There is no way they would be able to come close to Peter. The Flames were lucky to have him. Peter had a chance to go back to Toronto and do the Leafs games on TV. Most people would have left for the bigger market, but he was loyal to the team and city.
I seem to recall that Peter Maher also broadcasted Stampeders games for a season or two, and that he had to catch ridiculous flights at ridiculous times in order to pull it off. I even think he once called a Stamps game in the afternoon and a Flames game in the evening in two different cities.
Class act and the best PBP announcer ever. I was just thinking a month ago when he would retire and was hoping it would be for not another 4-5 years. He deserves the break!
You should check out Iceman and Habernac's podcast with him as the guest. I can't remember the site, but they have a thread a few pages back with links.
They asked him a bunch of questions. Lives in Phoenix now.

John Henderson, broadcaster:
“I remember in 1985 he called a football game AND a hockey game in one day. The Stamps were in Toronto for an afternoon game and Peter did the play-by-by there with Mike Lashuk. So they wrapped it, Lash threw it back to me in the studio, Peter hopped on a plane and flew to Philadelphia where the Flames were playing that night. Barely made it to the rink in time but got there and did his usual outstanding job. So two games, different sports, in the space of a few hours, or whatever the hell it was. Anywhere further apart than Toronto and Philly and he maybe wouldn’t have made it. But he did. And that’s pretty amazing.”

Just watched all the on demand feeds of Pete on the Flames website. They did a decent job. Good on them. However, the actual address video was cut off at the 15 min mark, not sure if that's supposed to happen. I am glad that Pete is going out on top. Actually heard the Minnesota chair incident on the radio as it happened, I remember thinking to myself, this doesn't sound good. Glad it all worked out. What a legend.
Funny, you just hear these people or see them at a distance and you think they're lilly-white saints. But some of those stories in the Herald piece make it sound like our favourite radio man could tie one on pretty good. Good to hear!

I would have thought this was the type of job where the employer would know the talented Play-By-Play people currently working in the CHL and AHL and go directly to them instead of waiting for resumes.

Clearly, they were caught off guard by Peter's retirement.
