Wow. That press conference really is quite the disaster once the questions from the press start.
Reporter - How is the mess going to get cleaned up when you have the same guys in charge? (paraphrase)
Lowe - "You're talking about the group that had a team 1 period away from winning the Stanley cup"
Reporter - "7 years ago".
Lowe - "There is one other guy I believe in hockey today that's still working in the game that has won more Stanley Cups than me. So I think I know a little bit about winning if there's ever a concern."
Wow. Way to pass the buck - it was the "cyclical nature of hockey" from 5 Stanley Cups 23 years ago, and "we only started the rebuild 3 years ago."
WTF?
Half the teams in the NHL might trade for your roster, but none of the AHL franchises would hire any of these dipshoots to manage their bus bathrooms.
Skip the BS and jump straight to the questions at 11:50 for some sweet Oiler Schadenfreude.

If it were anybody else you could almost feel bad for them, having to put up with that three-ring circus in upper management. But after hearing for years about how the Oilers were going to show us all how good they were next year, I couldn't be happier to watch them continue to embarrass themselves as the worst franchise in the NHL and bottom 5 in North America.
Bring on Rebuild II: Electric Boogaloo.

The basic gist was that Lowe and MacT have more Stanley Cups than you do, so shut up with your stupid questions about why fans should be excited that the people who got the team into this mess is now being asked to get them out of it.
Also, if you don't buy Oiler tickets, your opinion doesn't matter anyway.

just listened to it, your summary was spot on haha.
Wow, that was painful. As an Oilers fan, I'd be extremely pissed. Once the reporters started with their questions, this thing crashed and burned. Criticize Feaster all you want, but you'll never see an embarassment of a press conference like that from him.

Scotty Bowman probably.
Can't believe Lowe actually said that. Wonder if the Edmonton media will let him get away with it.

I love how Lowe looked around the league and counted everyone else's cups to make himself feel better. Sounds like something his wife tells him to cheer him up after a long day of running the franchise into the ground.

Larry Robinson has seven rings fwiw (six as a player, one as a coach). Lowe can't even get his facts straight when he's bragging about himself.

Hoping the Edmonton media just leave poor Kevin Lowe alone. How could they treat a six time cup winner who built those glorious eighties teams while playing at the same time any less than a deity?
I won't judge MacT until he makes his first trade or signing. I am going to guess that one of their prized horses will be traded this offseason for some Balance.

He wouldn't divulge that to the media for fear that that person might get his job.

Not to defend Lowe, but he does actually have six cups, since he was on the Rangers team that won it in 1994. So he does have more rings than most of the Oilers from the 80s. Not like winning as a player really has anything to do with being good in the front office though.

Good write up on the MacKinnon question(s) and responses that led to Lowe's ridicules statement:
Quote:
MacKinnon: “When you talked about Steve coming in under difficult circumstances when he took over the job, part of that, with respect, was he had to clean up the mess that was left already. This group was largely responsible for that mess. How are fans going to be re-assured that the group that left the mess that Tambellini couldn’t quite clean up is now going to be cleaned up by the guys who left the mess to begin with?”

You realize that he did win the cup 6 time right? I mean I don't think he is a good executive and he hasn't been able to build a winner obviously and being a good player doesn't mean that you will be a good executive either.

Lemaire has 8 as a player, 2 as an AGM, and 1 as a head coach, but I don't know if he's still working in the NHL.
Messier has the same 6 that Lowe has, and I think he's still a special assistant to Sather, or something.
Bowman has 12 rings through coaching and management. I believe he's a senior advisor to the Blackhawks.
Robinson has 9 as a player/coach/scout. He's an associate coach in San Jose.

So can anyone confirm what was said by Mactavish that caused Lowe to say he wasn't allowed to say that?

Just watching the highlights now... AWESOME!
So this is their 7th year out of the playoffs now right? That ties our worst stretch, just before we hit the playoff in 04, correct?
They need to miss at least one more year.
Leafs do hold the new record for sans playoffs at 8? 9?

5 or 6 cups hardly proves his worth in a management position. All that proves is he played on some incredibly stacked teams in the eighties. Sure he was a good player but trying to put yourself into the category of Robinson, Bowman or Lemaire is beyond ridiculous. If I didn't hate the Oilers so much I would almost feel bad for their fans for having to listen to this guy.
