I have to think that Jay is just not a good negotiator at all, whether he has no backbone and he's week or he got his law degree out of a box of fruitloops, I just don't know.
He traded the face of the franchise for a bottom first and two prospects that will probably not help the franchise is bad enough.
But now he's traded a number one defensemen, who's not old, not a UFA, is a major minute eater, one of the best skaters in this league who has found his offensive game for a conditional first round pick, a 5-9 fat defensemen (200 lbs, really?) who will likely never play in the NHL and a goalie who's not young who will probably never leave Europe.
This isn't a rebuild or a retool, is a demolition, its almost like Jay likely knows that he's getting fired at the end of the year and he's determined to leave a path of destruction.
What's next Curtis Glencross for a second and my dad's linemate on his senior team?
For fracks sake we all wanted a teardown and restructure of this team, but at least get some god damned prospects that might see a NHL rink someday that can possibly play at the top of the roster.
I don't get very angry about hockey very often because I'm not as engaged as I used to be, but Jay Feaster is doing a fine job of building a Expansion team along the lines of the Winnipeg Jets or Washington Capitals.
Good job Jay, lets trade all of our talent for a combination of majic beans and a pile of preserved Feces from the 18 hundreds.
Ugh
This isn't going to be a three year rebuild, this idiot has put us on track for a 10 year period of darkness. You guys thought the Phaneuf trade was bad, this is way way worse.
Why are people so mad? Last year, everyone would be ecstatic if this was the return for Bouwmeester. We are most likely gonna stay top 3 without him and possibly higher with Kipper gone too.
People get all huffy when the rumours of the actual value of players aren't true.
When Regehr was traded, the initial line was a 1st and Adam coming back...turning into outrage when the Flames gave up a 2nd/Kotalik and got back Butler and Byron.
When Iginla was traded, people dreamt up all the scenarios of how they could get a king's ransom back for what is effectively a 35 year old rental.
Now that Bouwmeester is traded, the rumours/dreams were always swirling around Rattie. So to get a young AHL all-star who is possibly NHL ready and some unknown goalie, with a 1st of conditional year, the disappointment again hits them.
That, plus I think we as fans are generally bad at gauging the value of cap space. 13.68 gone in less than a week is pretty drastic changes on the chequebooks of the owners.
I'm guessing this goaltender will come over if he is told he will have the opportunity to step right in and compete for an NHL job. Wasn't going to happen with St. Louis with all the goaltenders they have.
I love having as many goalies as possible. Feaster hasn't been great in his tenure as GM but getting a boat load of goalies and letting god sort it out is exactly how you do it.

Wow - I'm beginning to think that the only way people on here would consider a trade as "good" if we traded Tim Jackman for Sidney Crosby.
We ARE dealing with reality here, folks --- dropping salary, all of it in JayBo's case is HUGE for this team. That provides them with ample opportunity to hit the FA market on July 1.
That, in and of itself, is a big change.

I feel like everyone here is so shortsighted. We have 3 first round picks in an upcoming deep draft. We have unloaded a ton of salary for either; UFA's or bought out players. As far as I'm concerned, the Flames are in a great rebuilding position moving forward. Lots of money to spend and lots of first round picks.
St.louis' pick is lottery protected, so it may or may not be in 2013

This post needs it's own thread and needs to be sticky'd.
There is absolutely no way Davidson would get Bouwmeester on his team not for a 3rd round pick.... Davidson was all about value for $ and players that play hard.
The insistence of our owners likely cost the Flames a quality prospect like Rattie.
That's starting to sound like more and more of a possibility, you'd think that after spending 100's of millions on overpaid, play off missing teams they could eat like, 3 mil to help us land a stud prospect. I wanted Rattie so friggin bad, Sven needs a friend.
The drama in this thread is absolutely hilarious. So is the hyperbole used to describe all players involved.
The fact that we got a 1st round pick for a player that makes $7M per year and didn't have to take salary back is a pretty big deal.
Nobody who has commented on these players negatively knows anything about them. Same with Hanowski and Agostino.
