I have to think that Jay is just not a good negotiator at all, whether he has no backbone and he's week or he got his law degree out of a box of fruitloops, I just don't know.

He traded the face of the franchise for a bottom first and two prospects that will probably not help the franchise is bad enough.

But now he's traded a number one defensemen, who's not old, not a UFA, is a major minute eater, one of the best skaters in this league who has found his offensive game for a conditional first round pick, a 5-9 fat defensemen (200 lbs, really?) who will likely never play in the NHL and a goalie who's not young who will probably never leave Europe.

This isn't a rebuild or a retool, is a demolition, its almost like Jay likely knows that he's getting fired at the end of the year and he's determined to leave a path of destruction.

What's next Curtis Glencross for a second and my dad's linemate on his senior team?

For fracks sake we all wanted a teardown and restructure of this team, but at least get some god damned prospects that might see a NHL rink someday that can possibly play at the top of the roster.

I don't get very angry about hockey very often because I'm not as engaged as I used to be, but Jay Feaster is doing a fine job of building a Expansion team along the lines of the Winnipeg Jets or Washington Capitals.

Good job Jay, lets trade all of our talent for a combination of majic beans and a pile of preserved Feces from the 18 hundreds.

Ugh

This isn't going to be a three year rebuild, this idiot has put us on track for a 10 year period of darkness. You guys thought the Phaneuf trade was bad, this is way way worse.

Look at it this way. Does anyone think that Bouwmeester -- even having his first good year in three -- is worth $6.5 million a year? Obviously not. So how much do you think you're going to receive from another team for the privilege of taking on that contract?

So with this deal, the base case scenario is for STL to miss the playoffs this year and fail out and get a lottery pick next season. Not likely, but possible.

he's from woodbridge which is where i grew up so he can't be all that bad

would've liked more too but when i get a job as an nhl gm then i can show everyone how smart i am...

frees up some money for free agency and for all the goalies in the system, we couldn't seem to find one and had to sign macdonald...gives us a bunch of picks for the new gm to rebuild this team.

Maybe Bouwmeester not being close to an All star defenseman and never playing well under pressure had something to do with it.

Now that his is in St. L. would you consider trade Baertschi for Bouwmesster even up????

Thought not.

I'm guessing this goaltender will come over if he is told he will have the opportunity to step right in and compete for an NHL job. Wasn't going to happen with St. Louis with all the goaltenders they have.

Jay Bouwmeester was as advertised for 20 of his 250+ games as a Calgary Flame.

So I can't say I know too much about these players.

I do know that if you want a real chance at a rebuild you need to gamble and actually put some effort into it. I'm glad that the management, since they decided to go with the rebuild, is actually looking like they're going to give it a real shot. Not a half-arsed attempt.

And plus, everyone seems to have forgotten that Jay has a NTC that was negotiated. For all we know, he vetoed what would have been a better return. Yet another downfall of Sutter's NTC frenzy.

Having that 1st is Hoooooj! 3 first rounders? Hopefully Stempniak can fetch another couple picks.

I just hope one of more of these prospects pans out. We are close to full cupboards, but quality > quantity.

I've seen Cundari play several times (at least 10 times) when Peoria played against the Heat. Always noticed him in the offensive zone, never noticed him in the defensive zone. And yeah, he's pretty small.

I have to say, that is encouraging...and it helps alleviate some of the frustration I have right now.

That said, it's going to take a lot for a 5'9" defenseman to continue that kind of progression in the NHL.

I feel like everyone here is so shortsighted. We have 3 first round picks in an upcoming deep draft. We have unloaded a ton of salary for either; UFA's or bought out players. As far as I'm concerned, the Flames are in a great rebuilding position moving forward. Lots of money to spend and lots of first round picks.

I am one of the few here that started out upset when I first saw the trade, but now I am fine with it and look at the potential going forward.

There is no way you are going to get a great prospect and a pick for a guy with a large cap hit based on his production and consistency on defense. Jay was great this year, and he only has one year left on his contract. He was going to leave anyway, and right now he had the most trade value he has had since becoming a flame. We now have 3, 1st round picks in what is likely the deepest draft since 2003.

Also, the Cundari kid looks to be a solid defensive prospect that will be given NHL minutes in the next year or two, and has potential to be a top 4 defenseman.

Lastly, we have a ton of cap room, and we know the flames are an organization that will spend money in the future. We have more flexibility then ever.

I am happy about the trade because of the pick and the salary we shed, and the potential of the Cundari kid. I hope others agree.

What Im excited about is the Flames are gonna have a big prospect pool come next season. No more of the "Flames don't have any homegrown talent"
