Not to mention, the Islanders are looking needing better top end D now, not later. They have great D prospect depth.
You have to trade their needs to satisfy your wants unless desperation kicks in (and they are below Turris and Erixon desperation, since there are few tools that Nino and his agent can use). The Islander's biggest struggles are their D now and their goaltending going forward.

or the Okoposo.
Pure fantasy, but say they could grab Nino and play him with Sven. What advantage, if any, would they have speaking a language not understood by anyone else on the ice? For instance could Sven yell "Nino, drop it at 7:00, I have a big slapper!"
That question goes for Hudler and Cervenka, too.

I almost lost it when the morning guys on the Fan yesterday started talking about the possibility of Sven and Nino together, playing Swiss music, talking in funny accents, it was pretty damn funny.

No we exist. Yeah the DiPietro albatross is going to be impossible to shake if only our owner was smart enough to buy him out. Oh well
Nino is not going anywhere becuause it is the right move. Dipi is not going anywhere because of our idiot owner.

You'd be surprised how many Islanders fans there are. They are all just waiting in the wings, scared away by decades of disappointment, waiting for some reason to come back. But give them a tiny little playoff run and more than a year of respectability, and they'll re-surface.

The Coliseum was crazy for the 2002 playoffs vs Toronto. I am waiting to feel that again.

I bet they also got the warm and fuzzies last summer, when Duhatschek
suggested that the Flames trade their first for Nino.

Nino would be a good pickup by the Flames, but I just do not see the Islanders moving him. Should he play in the NHL? His stats from Bridgeport seem to point in a positive direction. He is still a young guy though and he should be put in a role that lets him excel offensively. Either that is top 6 in the NHL or AHL
Not inviting him to training camp seems to be a head scratching decision by Snow.

Any news on this? Really would like it if Feaster at least kicked the tires on this one.

I think Snow has basically answered every phone call by saying "I'm not trading him".

I wonder if a Giordano and Niederreiter trade makes sense.
Don't think Feaster would do it since it wouldn't improve our club now, but it seems like it could be a very viable trade in terms of value and need for both clubs. Flames would have a terrible D though and would be mailing it in for the season if it happened.

Giordano is 32, Backlund would make a lot more sense, but of course they would have to package a lot more around him, Irving + Butler + a 2ND?

Yeah. Snow is saying he's not trading him. Nino's agent is trying to help Nino save face , by telling the media that it's all his idea and Nino saying he's concentrating on playing.
The problem for Nino, is that Nino has no way to force Snow to trade him.

Why would the isles, building with kids 20-25 and on the cheap, trade 20 yr old Nino for a 30 yr old?

As much as I would like to see Nino on this team, I don't really think it's the right move as right now the Flames have 2 glaring issues... Lack of a big C and our D-core.
In my dream world we get a guy like Backes/Brouwer/Ott etc who could make some space but still has some finish.

Eventually the Islanders will have to trade some of that youth to bring in some veteran leadership if they want to take that next step (ie. L.A., Chicago).
Doesn't mean trading a promising 20 year old powerforward for Giordano is the right move though, especially since the Islanders probably aren't quite close enough yet to try to take that step.
