I think there's a difference though. Nabakob and Vis weren't mishandled and/or mistreated like Nino possibly has been.

Who knows if it will happen or not? Snow probably hasn't really figured it out yet himself, but I bet you for SURE he will be listening to trade offers, and keep insisting he won't trade him until he actually decides (if) to pull the trigger on an offer.

Isles with their tight internal budget, rely very heavily on cheap kids.
They let Parenteau go when they would not meet his $4m salary demand, replacing him with Boyes $1m salry
Nino is the isles top prospect and they'd rather pay him $900,000 in 2013-2014, then pay an older player $2m-$3m.

If Nino were 27 and not 20, if he were several months from being a ufa, instead of 6 yrs, then Nino's wishes would matter.
Snow won't trade Nino because fans feel, he's mistreated Nino.
Even Nino's agent seems to accept that they can't force Snow to trade him, at this point in Nino's young career.

I agree with you, but perhaps the trade will include other players that will end up saving NYI some money as well. I am sure that will be part of any package for Nino.

That may change. I am not saying for sure that it is definitely going to change. For the Isles, the indicator will be this offseason. Charlie finally has a destiniation for the team and will likely want to build a winner going in there sooooo...... The Isles may be players in the offseason again.

Seems like a big gamble, a GM would have to convince the owners that Nino is a legit player to spend that much cash on him.

Ya, very interesting idea. Trades like this have happened, but only on smaller scales. The Leafs "bought" Cody Frandson for the price of Lombardis' contract. It was at the time unknown if he would play again.
But if Wayne Gretzky and Eric Lindros were both sold for 15 million, 26.25 for Niederrieter is way out of wack. Hell, you can get a Peace Bridge for 24.5.
Soooo, could the Flames do the trade that Calgary4life suggested, but trade for Yashin instead? According to CapGeek he is owed a much more reasonable 6.6 million.

Isles have two large salaries that are longer then 2 yrs on their team, Tavares and DiPietro.DiPietro will make $4.5m a season and Tavares will average $5.5m a season.
And we know the isles aren't going to be looking to move Tavares.
Isles don't have other big salaried players to dump.

Can't trade for a player that is already bought out. The Islanders are 100% on the hook for Yashin's buy-out cost.
Edit: unless you're suggesting sending over the amount due to Yashin, as part of cash within a trade.

Greg Nemisz plus ?; would that get it done? One could only hope Feaster could pull one over on Snow.
(scanned through thread quickly and didn't see him mentioned)

I don't think cash in deals has been allowed under the last few CBA's (forgot when it got removed).

Teams are not allowed to send cash in a trade.

When is the last time an opposing gm, pulled one over on Snow in a trade?
When is the last time Feaster pulled one over, on another gm in a trade?
We are more likely to see Snow pull one over on Feaster, then see Feaster pull one over on Snow.

Is there a GM in the league that makes fewer trades than Snow?
I seriously can't remember the last time they made a blockbuster, or really even a significant trade.
Usually it's just aging (ish) player for mid round draft pick type of stuff.

The plus would have to be something like Brodie. Nemisz has 1 point in 21 games this year with the heat.

From a Flames' standpoint, something like:
NYI:
Stajan
CGY:
DiPietro
Nino
Sit him all year, to make sure he doesn't ever hurt himself, and then use an amnesty buy out on him in the off-season. You end up 'buying' Niederreiter essentially. Have no idea if it would be fair (or feasible) for any side, but would be interesting. Toronto definitely has the cash to do it, and as long as they send an equal cap hit (or close) back that is expiring, I am sure the Islanders would be willing to accept a heck of a lot less in trade just to be free of their 'mistake contract'.
|
Dipietro?
Feaster has finally matched his meet!

He traded Robert Nilson, O'marra and the pick that became Plante for Ryan Smyth. Smyth later left as a ufa, but Nilson/Omarra/Plante are garbage players.
He traded Campoli+ a struggling Comrie for a 1st+ McAmmond at the trade deadline. McAmmond was a salary dump, tossed in for salary reasons. ufa.
He traded a 3rd to acquire Wiz, them later traded him away for a 2nd+ conditional 5th.
He traded 2 second round picks at the 2010 draft to move up into the first to get Brock Nelson, who's one of their best prospects. A big kid. He's gonna be a good one.

I'm sure when the isles compare that 1 pt to Nino's 36 with Bridgeport, they will feel Brodie's enough of a sweetener

ummm we don't want him!!!
If our owners were cheap enough to sell our 2nd pick to Buffalo last year there is NO way we are buying out Dipietro. Maybe if you gave us Matt Moulson instead. I love that guy!
and holy crap are you an Islander fan? I thought it was a myth! Like a legendary creature such as a unicorn or a saskatchewan.
