Coming from an iPad 1, the difference is staggering in performance. The screen is gorgeous, but the speed is unreal.
Wait till you guys see how it handles iPhone (non-retina) apps - I still use a few, and it's incredible how good they look.
Oh, and LTE downtown? With 1 bar of reception, I pulled 14 megabits in each direction.

Yes, this was a no-brainer upgrade from an iPad 1. As expected, it's not noticeably faster than an iPad 2 but I haven't tried out any graphics-heavy apps/games out just yet.
I just can't stop staring at the screen. It's remarkable.

So is it worth it to buy it over the ipad 2?

Infinity Blade II and Galaxy on Fire 2 HD are must haves on the new iPad.
That is all.

If you're deciding between the two then I'd say yes. But I use my iPad for an hour or two just about every day so it's easy for me to justify the extra cost.
If you've already got an iPad 2 and you don't need the extra graphics horsepower I wouldn't say it's a must-upgrade, but do not ever look at a new iPad display.

I am looking at getting my first tablet and and going back and forth between the playbook and the ipad. Obvioulsy the cost is a big part of things. Its not a matter of I can afford the ipad I just dont know if its worth the extra 300. A 64g PB is only 299 compared to the 32g ipad at 599.

To me it was completely worth it. I tried a playbook out, and sold it within days of getting it. Basically just used it for the web browser. The ecosystem and the apps are all much superior on the iPad..IMO.

I'd say this iPad will have legs too in terms of lifecycle - there's no doubt this will be a viable machine in 2-3 years. On clean boot, there is about 730 megs available, and another 100 megs of RAM that can be re-used (cached), so it has lots of memory. And I can't imagine the screen will be obsolete any time soon either. LTE is an emerging technology, so that has legs as well.
So spending the extra $300 now isn't as bad when you cost it out over how long the device will be useful and supported.

I've had both and I'm one of the minority that really, really like the Playbook (at $200, mind you). I gave mine to my parents and they use it constantly for browsing, email, and e-reading. If that's all you're going to use a tablet for, you likely won't be disappointed with the Playbook.
But if they're both in your budget I'd absolutely get an iPad. The app selection and display alone is worth $300. They're really an entirely different class of tablet.

I saw this a while back, haven't cross referenced the numbers myself but I found it interesting. They've already hit 25 billion since this. Given the numbers, I can see why developers could be seen as targetting/spending resources on one versus the other; everything else being equal.

Just played some Infinity Blade 2. As somebody who isn't planning on buying one of these that was a brain-dead thing to do.

This is probably in the running for stupidest question of the week, but does anyone think there is still any availability for IPad 3 this late in the day?
I just couldn't get away from the office to line up this morning, but would like to get one. But I think I'm probably S.O.L.

Found my first app incompatibility. Navigon is completely unusable on the new iPad. Can't enter text into the data entry fields, and it won't draw the map - it's just black, and then it crashes.

Just ran a simulation of a route in Navigon and it works perfectly fine. I would suggest deleting the app, do a reboot, and install it again. I am using Navigon NA

Interesting - do you use the Panorama view in-app purchase? Thanks for testing this out for me - it works fine on the iPhone, so I'm fairly sure it's not an iOS 5.1 issue.
