I think they said that the players on the other sheets stopped when the crowd started singing O' Canada.

Canada wins it on a botched draw. Crowd probably psyched him out.
I like those black and red shirts the Canadian curlers are wearing.

I remember during one of the games, Cheryl Bernard was in the hack preparing for a big shot. The commentators remarked that if it was a curling rink, the spectators would all be silent. But since it's an Olympic rink, everyone was loud and cheering. Personally I think that people should be treating it more like the curling rink that it is... I'm sure it's incredibly distracting, especially for those rinks that simply aren't used to the big crowds.

But he wasn't really expected to win anything.

Well, the ones that I can think should've won previous today, given their current world rankings, was Hollinsworth in Skeleton, Morrison in the 1000m longtrack, Hamelin in the 1500m short track.
Results should've been better in women's skiing, and men's skiiing Guay was really close two times to a bronze. Add that into the 2 top Canadian skiiers out (Kucera and Vanderbeek), so there's a bit of a pass there.
So, 3 medals before today that were "almost guarantees" from athletes who severly underachived compared to their world rankings...and at least 3 more today mens long track, womens short track, mens short track, totalling 6 IMO.
The medals that they've gotten, none of them have been totally out of the blue as far as world rankings yet, except for maybe the 3000m women's bronze.
The best story that didn't end up in a medal was either Guay (.23 and (.03 from medals) or may have been the biathon men today, finishing 5, 7, 8 and 11th when the best finish previous was 11th.
Some ground to make up...

At least the Bobsled flipped... you know they would've choked away a medal anyway, so at least we have a sweet video of them flipping over and still finishing the race instead!

What do Canadian Olympic Athletes and the Flames have in common?
(Pardon the generalization) They are so mentally weak it is borderline embarassing.
1) Hamelin brothers (even admitted) they couldn't pace themselves.
2) Melissa Holingsworth has had the opportunity to train on the "fastest track in the world" more than anyone else. If everyone knew the way that Canada restricted access for international athletes to that track, you would see how disappointing her finish really is. (This is also the underlying reason why the Georgia luger's family has a legitimate point in that, if its the fastest track in the world, why weren't athletes given more opportunitites to practice on it?)
3) Alpine ski team: "After I almost spilled, I just wanted to get to the finish to hear the crowd noise". Many of the athletes here have grown up on this hill and have a physical advantage if anything.
4) Chan: Figure skating is one of the easiest sports to see the lack of mental toughness in.
5)...Game vs. Swiss. As a hockey fan, this was a great game, but you can see in the game the pressure some of those guys feel and how tight they hold their sticks. Two mental breakdowns and its 2-2. Another 2 mental breakdown by Richards and tap-ins turn into missed chances.
Athletes that have not had to face the same mental pressure have done very well for Canada.
1) St. Gelais: Shielded largely by the expectation of Roberge to dominate was able to come through on her birthday.
2) Montgomery: One could argue that he was shielded from the pressure by the number one seated Hollingsworth taking a lot of the pressure while having a great season under the radar. I would argue that he is one of the few true mentally strong athletes, where nothing phases him from his true self. Perhaps a mental state that more Candian athletes should aim toward.

Who is St.Gervais? It is St. Gelais.
Hollingsworth fataed up one corner out of her 4 runs. She should have had the gold but made 1 mistake, I doubt it is because she wasn't mentally tough.
Chan was never considered to medal.
The Hamelins choked, and the Alpine team sucks though.

Corrected spelling mistake.
Hollingsworth choked on her final run. Period. Skeleton is about 4 complete (close to perfect) runs. She was not able to do it, all the winners were. It was a mental mistake. She has ridden that course more than anyone else in the field, has had virtually unlimited practice time and she crumbled under the pressure
Chan: I agree with regarding a medal, I only brought up figure skating, because it is a sport where mental toughness is so visible (read: Canada's lack of participation)

The Curling match was fantastic. I was actually was able to attend the match, and the crowd was electric. Can't say I've ever seen the Canadian Anthem sung during the middle of any event. It's amazing to see all the patriotism, and hopefully it continues not only throughout the Olympics, but into the future.

New day, new hope.
In addition to curling and hockey, medal chances are:
Mens Ski Cross.
Women's 1500 long track speedskating.
Outside shot at Bobsled, with 3 time olympic medalist Pierre Lueders in 6th after 2 of 4 runs.
Another ice dance round, with Canada in 2nd. Final dance is tomorrow.
