You are a class act. My dad also passed away from cancer a year later. Still not easy all these years later.....

That was a long time ago, when they were winning.
Friedman said Detroit is a "hard sell" after last summers' free agency (around the 58.40 mark).
https://www.sportsnet.ca/podcasts/32...ason-finale-4/
It was a bit of a thing from the fans after that comment apparently.
It's just happened a few times -- free agents didn't give the Red Wings the time of day last free agency, Andersson and Myers both saying no to them, maybe Pettersson too.
I think this will change, especially if Detroit makes a run this year, but it does seem like a team that players don't want to go to right now.

Weegar to the Sharks is an interesting thought. I can see why the Sharks are kicking tires on him or a similar dman. Their top defenceman right now are Orlov and Klingberg. 33 and 34. Orlov has a year left after this one. If you're the Sharks, you'd have to hope Dickinson, maybe Luca Cognoni can start stepping into a top 4 role. They are thin depth wise on the back end.
With a bunch of UFA dmen, I'm sure Grier has been having contract chats with some of their agents. So if a guy like Mario Ferraro is saying "look, I want a 6x6 deal"*, might be worth it to explore a better, older, and cost controlled guy like Weegar instead.
*I'm not saying this is what he gets, but I am sure the Sharks foursome of upcoming UFA dmen are all asking for decent raises this offseason.
San Jose has a really interesting trade deadline / offseason to come

On a related note - personally, I love having fans of other teams on this board (as long as they're respectful and contributing to the quality of the overall discussions). It's great to include other perspectives, angles and info about other teams. I think having that makes this a better and more welcoming board for all.

Yes my condolences as well Diss.
My mom's been battling cancer since the summer, and the kind words then definitely helped during the initial shock when I first heard. Battling every day, lots of highs and lows but fortunate enough to still have her here.

Sincerest condolences on your loss.
I lost my mom 13 years ago.
I was in a family trip back home in Germany and got a message that my mom had fallen.
We were in Düsseldorf at the time.
I was making plans to fly home but medical
staff at the Royal Alex in Edmonton said don’t fly back. We’ll keep her on life support until you return. (it was about 5 days).
We landed back in Calgary and immediately drove to Edmonton. We got to say our final good byes and she passed a few hours later.
I still struggle with it all these years later. Moms are special!
My thoughts and prayers are with you

Thank-you to all that are sharing. Many of us are at ‘that age’, and while it may not fit the thread topic, it is important we men allow each other to be vulnerable whenever.
My dad had a year long battle, and fought bitterly to the end in hospice. What stung me most was his battle was fueled by regret. It gutted me that a man who survived concentration camps as a teenager, came to this country as a refugee with absolutely nothing, but still created an amazing life and family could not find peace.
My mom was diagnosed after a nasty fall last year. At 92 the old bird has said F-It. No treatments, no fighting, no regrets. Just living her best life day by day.

My sincerest condolences on your loss as well, Diss. I can't even imagine what losing a mother must feel like, but I can see how difficult it must have been for you.
I'm still relatively new to posting here and don't get to contribute a ton, but one of the biggest reasons I did decide to start posting here after years and years of just reading CP and lurking was because of yourself, Sec, Royle, IV, Rasta, and all the other insiders (Oilfan too!) who share what you're hearing out there.
You and all of our insiders make our community here feel really special, so please know how valued your voice is here and that we do appreciate you! You're welcome to PM me if you ever need to chat

I lost both of my parents. If there are two things that I can offer are:
1) You don't get over the pain. You just learn to live with it better.
2) Nobody is truly gone until they are forgotten.
The very worst part of life is losing the people that you love. For everyone that goes through it, just know you don't have to do it alone. That's what community is for - the people around you that you love and that love you, and even here on this forum. There are good people here, and they show themselves time and time again.
My deepest condolences Diss, and to everyone else who has lost people over the years.

Talking to team executives and agents over the past 24 hours, it’s clear they believe CBA tweaks to create a new playoff salary cap — which closes the loophole on limitless payrolls via injured players returning for the playoffs — and to eliminate third-party broker teams in trades (double salary retentions) have hampered trades.
“It obviously will hamper the trade action. Not sure how much,” said one NHL team executive, who requested anonymity because teams are not supposed to comment on CBA matters. “I expect there will be some action between now and the deadline because there always is. My current take right now is that there isn’t a lot of supply, and there is little demand for what is being made available.”
“I think it will pick up as prices are still a tad high,” another agent said on Monday. “However, have detected restraint among GMs — being more realistic about their chances of getting in the playoffs and if they can win a round.”
Let’s be clear, we will get trades this week. The big three Cup contenders in the Central — the Colorado Avalanche, Dallas Stars and Minnesota Wild — are all active and plan to add. The Edmonton Oilers and Utah Mammoth are very active. Cup contenders in the East, the Tampa Bay Lightning and Carolina Hurricanes, are trying to add, as well.
