Johnny went to Columbus, so I'm not sure Skittles are as valuable a currency here as they used to be.
No deal.

I did not realize, until today, how much Boudreau looks like Larry "Bud" Melman.

Unless Markstrom said more than the one "didn't like how it was handled upstairs" comment, I don't see how anyone can point to what exactly he was referring to. Conroy said it was just a communication issue and everything was back in order, and Markstrom hasn't said differently since.

I get tired of this.
I have never blocked conversation on this site and I won't. I'm happy to have others disagree with me, see it more and more every day.
You're suggesting then that I should refrain from having an opinion then?
Because that's all I'm doing.
Which since you replied ... has generated further discussion making your point kind of moot.

And while it may still be "opinion", statements like "there's no way the market will be as good" seem a lot more like statements of fact.

How about a sneaky buy on a young(er) player, just to switch things up?

I agree, but unrealistic value on retention does not allow this team to move forward. Specific to Markstrom, it eliminates an opportunity to capitalize on getting assets from a leveraged team to help propel the rebuild/retool. Calgary spends to the cap anyhow…. Utilize young skilled players to get experience to pay off later.
Owners should just accept they are paying the full cap amount, and leave the hockey people to build the teams.

Easier said than done when its not your money. Each owner values retention differently. Some don't care, some care about the return.

Why do you get to dictate that it's "unrealistic value"?
I want more trades too but I'm glad they aren't trading just for the hell of it. Set a value and stick to it if it isn't a UFA.

Boudreau with a great moment earlier talking about how he would play Quinn Hughes at center on team USA. Obviously poking fun at that report that upper management tried to pressure him to do that with the canucks

Winger market is deeper than I thought. Mang definitely gets traded today. That's my only prediction

Agreed - it's a slippery slope once you reduce your ask, teams think they can start bossing you around.
Reminds me of when Burke held on to UFA Cammalleri at the TDL years ago because teams wouldn't meet his ask. It hurt not to recoup the pick in the short-term, but setting that precedent is important in future dealings (especially for a new GM like Conny, I would imagine).

Except people have listed reasons why they think that - multiple times. Do they need to be stated every time? It's a message board, sometimes you keep it short and just state the opinion.

Oh, I don't disagree - Boudreau is one of the top all-time "player's" coaches alongside Alain Vigneault, Pat Quinn, and Marc Crawford.
Definitely opposite of Mike Keenan and Mike Babcock.
It's just that I never realized how much he looks like Larry "Bud" Melman!
