Monahan.

I'd argue that he also has more offensive upside than Barkov as well.

I suspect that's part of the reason he's typically ranked top 4-5. To play like he does while being younger than most of his class is something I think weighs heavily with scouts.

I'd like it of we can get him so I can try and find a jersey when I'm in Finland this summer...just wish he played for JYP not Tampere as that's where my allegiance lies.

I doubt he'll be available at 6 where we likely end up.

IMO:

McKinnon > Barkov marginally > Lindholm = Monahan

As someone else said, there is very little difference at the end of the day.

Think about how differently we would have ranked these 4 players a year ago. We can assume that it will be very different again, in a year from now.

We simply can't know who will continue to develop the most going forward. But MacKinnon has the elite skating and that isn't going to go away. And Barkov has the size, which isn't going to go away.

Other than that, you pick the one you like, you do everything you can to help develop them, and you hope they continue to develop into the player they are projected to be.

Statistically, I would predict that 2 of the 4 will become impact players, possibly 3.

For me, McKinnon has to be our first choice. I'll be happy with anyone we draft as long as we don't go "off the board" with our first rounder if it's a high one.

I'm pretty excited for the lottery on monday, I think I'll be pumped for the draft!

Same goes for MacKinnon, born a day apart.

I really don't know.
I´ve thought about comparing him to Thornton couple of times but Barkov probably likes to shoot more.

My only concern with Barkov really is not knowing how high or low is his ceiling, obviously he is really mature already which kind of makes me wonder how much he is going to be able to develop still. Also a minor concern is his speed, I remember as a kid watching his dad play in FEL and he definately has the same qualities: big body, very skilled but average skater. Although Barkov Jr. is a lot better version.

The lottery is on Monday?.. As in, the day after tomorrow?

I thought it happened much closer to the draft.

Teams can still make trades right now, correct? Once the deadline passes, I think it's just that traded players are ineligible to play for their new team.

I'd like to see Feaster get right on trying to attain another pick in the Top 60...it'd be awesome if he managed to get one from a non playoff team, maybe in the 11-14 range

No Barkov for me. The best centre's Finland has produced in the last 15 years are the koivu brothers, jokinen and filpula.

What does that have to do with Barkov?

I guess Sven was obviously a mistake, then.

Ps either Koivu in their prime would be amazing in a Flames uniform.

This, both are 1st line Cs in their prime, albeit lower end ones.

I don't know. Mikko Koivu scored 1 point in 21 games in his draft year and he went 6th overall. The next year he scored 7 points in 48 games. In fact Barkov outscores Koivu when he was 21. Button says that when he watched them play against each other this season, Barkov outplayed Koivu in the matchup.

So you're tempted to conclude that the player who scored 48 points is much more talented, but of course no one develops the same way and Koivu and Barkov are at the opposite ends of that spectrum. Projecting how players develop is incredibly difficult.

Funny situation. Barkov is very young in his draft class and he's the highest scoring Euro, but he looks so mature on the ice that you almost feel like there's less room for improvement. Of course that's not necessarily rational. No one hits their ceiling at 17. But it will be interesting to see.

Too bad the Flames do not have a 2nd rounder, there are several prospects I like that could be available in the early 2nd, like Jordan Subban... the force is strong in that family.

Still don't like Feaster giving that 2nd up for Ramo.

Lets hope this turns out similar to last time we gave up a 2nd rounder for a goalie.

Fair enough. You generally don't go to Finland for scoring talent or decent cinema. But there are good things about Finns too. Barkov for example is so selfless that he even stop his own shots so that Nemo can have points too:

Why? Is it the type of style they're taught over there or simply bad luck?

What an odd occurrence. It's like his stick overshot the puck, was stopped by the post and deflected the puck back out.

Also, Finnish sounds so weird.
