I would like to see us get Josh Morrissey, if available in the mid to late first round.

Tiebreakers:
1. Points percentage (doesn't factor in to end-of-season standings)
2. the ROW column (Regulation plus overtime wins)
3. Head to Head record
4. Goal differential.
Tiebreakers 1 and 3 don't really matter because we didn't play these teams (other than nashville). Nashville holds that tiebreaker on us (4 points vs 2 points), but has way less ROW (19 to 14), so they need points to pass us (ie a win).
In the end, goal differential isn't going to be a factor in the tiebreakers with the flames because the flames have such high ROW.

It's amazing how much one less win would have changed this, especially if Tampa wins tonight.

In contrast, Colorado could jump from 2nd to 4th tonight. Imagine if the flames pulled that move? People would jump out windows.

If Jimmy Howard didn't hand us a win then we'd be tied with Tampa for 28th, with them and Colorado having the chance to pass us if they were to win.

Monahan = Toews, Lindholm = Forsberg, Barkov = Olli. Hard life being Finnish.
You're counting Barkov's nationality against him without any reference to the type of players they are. No scouting report mentions Jokinen as a good comparison, but they're both big and Finnish and that's enough in the internet age.
I'll start another meme: Ristolainen = next Aki Berg.

Yeah, and Nashville could end up anywhere between 2nd and 6th tonight.

Haha, the bold part made me LOL.
I might have missed an earlier comparison, but what NHL player would you liken Barkov to, Henry? Doesn't have to be Finnish either.
Just curious, as I haven't really seen any of these guys play myself.

There are some comparisons to Kopitar & M. Koivu, both of whom had questions surrounding their skating when they were drafted, as I believe Barkov does (I could be wrong). That's not to say he's a Nemisz-like snail, but skating is one of Barkov's attributes that doesn't stand out.

Obviously I've made this same point before but intelligence and puck management are in my view Barkov's biggest strengths, so if he peaks at Olli's Florida numbers offensively, he'll be an amazing pick.
He is a guy who reads the play all over the ice, uses his size and awareness to keep the attack going in the offensive zone, and who can make big passing plays and score goals close to the net. Not aggressive but strong one on one. I strongly feel that he's a two-way playmaking center even though scores goals too. It's clear to me that he thinks the game that way already.
I don't know what kind of numbers you can expect from him in the NHL however. I always feel that I have end with a disclaimer that I have no idea if he's a better pick than some other player. All I can say is that his game in Finland is extremely solid and his coach used him in every possible situation. The coach of the second best team in Finland doesn't use a 17-year-old center on the PK for laughs.

Haven't been able to come up with a great comparison. And who knows how a prospect develops when he becomes an adult. I've thought about Thornton or Sundin when I've tried to imagine his on-ice posture in the NHL if all goes well. Button has had the most entertaining comparisons: Dale Hawerchuk and Ron Francis. I really don't know.
Really I just hope Edmonton doesn't draft him. I'm confident that the Flames will get a good player whoever they prefer.

So any predictions on who, if any, is going to be the guy to drop like Fowler and Forsberg? Let's not count Nichushkin if he does.
If I had to put money on someone, I'd go with Barkov dropping a few places. Have Nurse climb above him, a team bet on Nichushkin and maybe even one of Lindholm or Monahan as a team's scouts are just more sure of how they stand up against other prospects.

Yep I'd say that scenario isn't too farfetched. Nurse seems like the kind of guy that a team desiring defense could take top 5-6. Nichushkin obviously is a huge wildcard.
I could see Drouin dropping a spot into 4th if a team really likes Barkov and wants a centre.
What is going to be super interesting is to see what guys are available at the STL pick. So many appealing guys in this draft we should have some interesting options there.

Minor details, but does anyone know definitively which 7th round picks we hold at the draft this season?
I assumed it was:
Ducks 7th - From the 2010 MacMillan/Jaffray trade (conditional, conditions unknown)
Hawks 7th - From the 2013 Karlsson trade
...but another site shows that we actually have:
Senators 7th - From the 2013 Karlsson trade (Acquired by the Hawks in Klinkhammer trade)
Flames 7th - Supposed conditions from Ducks trade were never met, so we still have our own 7th

This link from the official Flames site shows the Karlsson deal was for the Ottawa pick
http://flames.nhl.com/club/news.htm?...L%7cCGY%7chome
So we definitely have Ottawa's 7th.

Does anyone else think its a big deal that Barkov is only a few days too old to be held over to next years draft?
I think it suggests he has potential to develop beyond others such as Jones or others that are 11 months older.
Am I being silly?

No, not silly at all.
At that age, one year of development can make a huge difference.

Imagine having a big C make the team out of camp...and he had just turned 18 a few days previous!!!
I know nothing about these prospects other than what I read...but I'll be excited if Feaster calls out Barkov's name on draft day.

I agree that Lindholm would be the better pick due to him having more upside but if he's gone, then you know which center we have to take.
