Don't disagree but once his over-produced Def Leppard albums hit the shelves all of a sudden every album he produced sounded like that.

Just hope Lange is out of that phase of his producers life fr this one.

Ah, yes, my bad... all I saw was Let There Be.. and Back in Black. The music just lost a lot of that raw/bluesy edge for me when Brian Johnson joined. I like those 2 post Bon albums, but if I'm going to throw on some ACDC it's likely going to be High Voltage or Dirty Deeds... can't ever get enough of those.

I got the 3 DVD Plug Me In for Christmas, there's some great stuff on there as well. Some very old interviews with Bon, lots of live stuff.

I liked the bluesier stuff as well, Powerage is a terrific example of that (this is their most underrated LP I think). Like all bands that have been around a long time, there's some crapola that's been released, too. But I like more than I dislike (Razor's Edge is probably my lease favourite).

Yup, and the actual skill of Angus on guitar is often underrated as well. People like to spout off about the Vai's and Satriani's, but damned if Angus didn't have amazing feel and rhythm.

Edit: ... as we derail this thread :-D

All AC/DC pretty much sounds the same to me, well, the beats to a lot of their songs anyway.

Just grabbed the new Matt Costa "Unfamiliar Faces" yesterday and it is fantastic. It's a lot folkier than his first album but I'm enjoying it more than the first. Also grabbed "Brighter Than Creation's Dark", the new album from the Drive-By Truckers but have not had a chance to listen to it yet.

Thank you. Didn't know anything about this. I'll be on it. Agreed on Idle Hands....digging it.

allmusic.com

Ten bands to watch in 2008 (including my under-rated faves, Supergrass):

http://blog.allmusic.com/2008/1/30/w...at-rock-in-08/

Strong reviews for (CDs I picked-up today), Drive-By Truckers, Brighter Than Creation's Dark :

http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p...0:djfixz9hldke

Less than three weeks into 2008 it's hard not to escape the feeling that with this disc we may already have the best album of the year.

Bob Mould, District Line:

http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p...0:k9fyxz9jld0e

Bob Mould isn't forcing himself to make music like he did when he was in his 20s, nor is he working through a series of ideas as he did in the early 2000s; on District Line, he's pulling all these strands together and it makes for his strongest and best album in years.

Black Mountain, In The Future:

http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p...0:0jfoxz9hldje

It's packed with stuff, but there's enough space here, and wonderfully warm atmospheres, to bring the listener right into the deeper sonic dimensions that Black Mountain is trying to create. That it's done without artificial sounding punch up or tons of digital effects makes it come together as a whole. There is no sophomore slump here.

New R.E.M. a return to form?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=41Gsa...eature=related

http://www.pitchforkmedia.com/articl...pecial-edition

Geared up to Accelerate and readying themselves to pal around North America with the youngsters in Modest Mouse and the National, R.E.M. have announced their big plans for the summer. The band will head to Europe in July, August, and early September, with more festival appearances and a full UK trek to be announced shortly.

But before any of that, the band will play a one-off show in London on March 24 at the legendary Royal Albert Hall. It's a benefit for the ICA.

Accelerate drops March 31 in the UK and April 1 in the U.S. from Warner Brothers.

An early track-by-track review:

http://stereogum.com/archives/premat...&utm_medium=ff

The cumulative effect of Accelerate is a bit like a roller coaster ride -- you wait forever to get on it (it's been four years since Around The Sun!), it's a total rush in the moment, and when it's over, it leaves you wanting to go back and do it again.

They sound positively hungry on this record. It's almost impossible not to hear Accelerate as an attempt to win back old fans and regain the critical respect they've lost in the past ten years. That said, the music doesn't sound desperate, forced, or designed for maximum commercial impact, as with U2's last two records. If anything, they sound pissed-off and eager to brawl.
