The Flames have let in 4 or more goals in 41% of Markstrom’s games dating back to last season.

Let that sink in.

including EN goals?

I wasn't suggesting he has been good...just that the team can't score to save their lives

its not a good recipe on either end

This 2023 season is the biggest don't give an eff meter in the past 40 years since I followed the Flames. lol

I don't give 2 kyits what they do as long as they don't start Marky against the Oilers.

We are what, 10 games into the season and Dino7C has had like 6 die on the hill moments already! hahaha

If the goalie is standing on his head and the rest are playing horrid is it ok then for him to bitch about his teammates? That excuse never flies as the goalie could turn around and ask about the 3 breakaways per game or 2 on 1 from the other end because of moronic plays.

or 2 on 0 like last game lol

"two goals on five shots!!!!!"

digging deeper a guy left all alone in front while Zadorov stood there and watched and a 2 on 0 that was just a terrible pinch and lack of coverage

meanwhile the Flames had 16 perimeter shots

They did better in the 2nd and 3rd though

Markstom hasn't been good enough but I'm afraid Wolf will suffer a similar fate unless the team D improves (there has been signs)

If they decided to blow it up I wouldn't be shocked if Markstrom was open to waiving his NMC.

But I think it's still too early to make that decision. They're 5 points out of passing Arizona with 70 games left.

I don't think the argument is Markstrom being better or not than last season. It's whether he's good enough after the fact to be a 60+ game starter in this league and the numbers thus far are indicating a big fat no. Him being marginally better than the pile of hot garbage he was last season isn't really much to hang one's hat on.

Its also about capitalizing on a good start for a guy who is likely not around in a true contending window (assuming they rebuild or even go younger in a retool). Wolf is the goalie of the future, and if Lindholm is on the block, may as well trade his buddy too

That is, admittedly, quite a bit of runway.

It's also Arizona. So there's that.

So the argument is that he isn't very good and makes too much money so they should trade him?

GL with that
other teams scouts are probably as good as the average CPer at identifying goalies

If the Flames could move Markstom and his full salary they would...forget about 2nds I think they would do it for anything

If they're trading Markstrom, then that's the sign the rebuild is on. Which means the hourglass is then running on Lindholm and Hanifin and Tanev and whomever else.

Which is all good. There are a number of teams that are over a barrel for goaltending right now, if Conroy can find the right deal he should pull the trigger.

There are Leafs podcasts out there clamoring for Treliving to scoop up Markstrom. I think there's definitely an appetite in certain markets so it doesnt seem farfetched if we're talking about retention involved. Some people think he's playing behind San Jose lite and he's keeping the games respectable (and tbf was true early on, but the team has actually been decent in the last few).

Flames need to capitalize on this if they can.

Especially if you can get the Devils Canes and Leafs into a bit of a bidding war. They're gonna have to go through eachother in the East so that could be a great opportunity for Conroy

This will be great for the Flames if they can unload Markstrom without keeping any salary and start loading up for drafts. Git'er done Tre!

I would do Markstrom and Tanev for a 1st, Brodie, Samsonov and Robertson.
