True, the Young Guns era was bad. But I would honestly put this year's group in the conversation for one of the worst and most boring teams in franchise history. It's frustrating because on paper they should be so much better than they are, but they're just a complete mess. Goaltending, defence, PP...nothing is working.

Markstrom apologists are the best. I love the Flames but absolutely do not want them making the playoffs with this tandem. They would go nowhere with either one of these guys in net.

Between the horrible goaltending, uninspired play and the animated board ads, this game is unwatchable.

It sure can. The flames evened up the period a bit by the end. That's not the best the Av's can play.

The 99-00 Flames was a very difficult team to watch.

This whole season has been defined by goaltending, I don’t think it can be understated how important it is. A team just plays different when they don’t believe the goalie can come up with the big saves when called upon, no goalie will make every key save but when the team doesn’t believe he can make that save it just changes the whole mindset of the team. I don’t think it’s crazy to say goaltending has cost us 4-5 wins this season, add 8-10 pts and we’re a top team in the west. It really boils down to that in my opinion. There are other factors of course but sadly for Markstrom this has been the story of the season. Other problems are magnified and blame placed on coaching and poor performances from other players which I do believe is warranted to some degree but man a great goalie can make or break a team. This season is a good example of that

Markstrom is the reason it is only 2-0. Seriously!

The covid bubble canadian div team was similarly bad too. Way more talented that they showed on the ice. The team is only good when nobody expects them to be good. Expectations management is not something that is practiced in Calgary.

I want to like Kadri. I really do. But I just can't. He has oodles of talent but the IQ of a rock. On the 5 on 3 he made two terrible plays and cost the team an opportunity. So many games he's out there in high leverage situations and makes terrible decisions. Turnovers, missed shots, bad positioning. He might be the poster child of a career year bad contract. I hope I'm wrong(And I am all the time) but I don't see his contract aging well at all. Also, I thought he was supposed to have grit?

I think goaltending cost more than 5 or 6 wins.

'apologist' lol. It was a joke, jeez.
If me pointing out there are multiple issues/warts on this team besides goaltending makes me an apologist, then yes I am definitely an apologist.
And I do want them to make the playoffs.

Watching that replay Markstrom could definitely see that puck on the 2nd goal, he just fn missed it as usual.

Flames had some jump to start. 2 on 2 and the complexion completely changes. Dissect any goal and make all the excuses you want to, but if you’re saving less than 90% in this league then you’re not playing at the level of a starting goalie. Unfortunately true of both our guys.

People like to say it goes deeper than that, but aside from Huberdeau's vanishing act, it's literally as simple as that.

Here's another post talking about goaltending.
Is management asleep at the wheel? What are they watching? Surely they can't just let Markstrom burn the house down?

Compare the quality shots of each team. Not even close.

4-5 wins is a low end imo. Good goaltending and we'd have 8-10 more wins. It's not just the 1 goal games, any game we've been down early could have very easily gone the other way. Can't understand how or why but definitely has been on the goaltending this year.

There’s no doubt that there’s more than one problem. But a team save percentage around 89% is the biggest reason. I’m not trying to skewer either guy. I like them both, but it’s very difficult to succeed as a team with that kind of a team save percentage.
