I don’t like the Sutter comments but also think it’s being overblown
Flames fans called for this guy to be hired as coach for years
Did y’all forget this is what you get?
For those who are too young to know I could understand, but yup this is par for course for him.
LA he even is like this. There's a reason he's a short self life kinda coach. But in this social media world in a hockey market, the awareness of his antics gets amplified.
I think it's strictly a beef between him and Salim
Dry sarcasm that gets blown up into something more
I was pissing myself at his response tbf. Man continues to have the funniest pressers, neck and neck with Torts and Brooksy in his NY days
Being compared to Torts isnt a good thing though.
That guy is a P.O.S.
But at least with Torts when he has an issue with a media person he just goes right at the media person.
Sutter this season has brought both Phillips and Pelletier into the discussion for his "supposed" issues with Salim. If its an issue with the reporter or the question why not call him out directly then instead of dragging a player through your so-called trolling of the media.

I'm sure that behind closed doors Sutter lets those players know not to take any of the presser nonsense seriously
If you've seen any behind the scenes footage of Sutter with his players, he's forming relationships with them, joking around, and giving them father/son-like pep talks
Games & game days are probably a different story
But I think any concern about players taking media availabilities seriously is blown out of proportion

I'm not that worried about the players in the organization to be honest, but the media has commented the mood around the team this year has been pretty terrible, so the assumption he's more positive behind the scenes might be a stretch.
To me this is a bigger issue for a guy like Coronato or other young players might have to sign in the next 12 months.
Sutter can have conversations with Pelletier behind the scenes sure...but if youre Matthew Coronato who is also an undersized forward do you look at the way he talks about Phillips and Pelletier in the media, see the ways he speaks about their size, and see how tough its been for them to get in the lineup and go "The Flames organization is the best place for my development as a player and for me to have success in the NHL"
I dont think so.

You're maybe the seventh person to say this. I agree, that's of utmost importance. But public perceptions are also important, particularly to other players trying to break into the lineup (or the organization).
Sorry catching up on the thread haha.
I suggest everyone go watch some old Sutter press conferences on YouTube. There is a bunch of them going back to his LA days. He is always keeping reporters on their toes. Last year when the team was rolling he would come out and put on reading glasses and read the game sheets while answering.

It would be really nice for Sutter to have a "chill" media exchange where he shows a bit of love for these kids instead of the usual tone, if only to silence these narratives sprouting up
It would do him some good with the public, even if it's a non issue in the room
I'm sure guys like Lewis, Lucic, Toffoli etc are telling the young guys or even Huberdeau after the poop incident, not to sweat it. It's just Sutter.
You don't have to like the comments to understand what's actually going on. Sutter could use a bit of Levity every now and then, he's not particularly pleasant with the media on game days. He hasn't been for like 40 years. News flash.
I think he's also getting a bit annoyed with the Calgary media. In LA the questions were pretty soft ball and he'd either pan them or be curt. Here I think the media, with their game day questions are either trying too hard or not at all.
I think he also pays more attention than he let's on to what the media is writing and saying.
That doesn't excuse the comments though. I didn't really like the Huberdeau poopgate comments, the comments tonight, or even his comments about Gaudreaus 500th game 2 years ago. But that's how he is. We don't know what gets said behind closed doors.
But to suggest that it's North Korea in the dressing room I think is a bit hyperbole/sky is falling type of stuff.
To those calling Sutter a short shelf life kind of coach. Is that actually true? Seems like he sticks around longer than most because his teams do well.

This was Tuesday. Starting at about 3:00, he talks about Pelletier for a solid two and a half minutes...

The fan base is clamouring for prospects to get game time, so he's asking questions about the prospects.
Just because Sutter doesn't like it doesn't mean Salim is making stuff up. Salim is just asking the questions the fans want to hear about
I don't think he's very good at his job and I've always felt he comes off as kind of dim.
Decrying First Nations' representation over the Prince Albert Raiders throwback jersey was an early hint that he really doesn't know what he's talking about.
