My coworker isn’t a public figure

*Infinite facepalms* This is where I need The Rock to come in and say "It doesn't matter if he is a public figure!" Give the guy his privacy, he is just a person like any of us.

Using your hypothetical, if a fellow employee took time off and your boss said “it’s private, let’s give them space, that’s all I’m going to say” and you kept saying “I don’t care if it’s private where are they” you’d just be being an #######.

Why is this difficult to understand for people?
Apparently, you wouldn't have to respect your fellow employee's privacy if they are a public figure and/or make a lot of money. They've forfeited all rights to privacy.

ETA: I'm not certain how they measure public figure-dness so it is possible that some of you here may have crossed into the public figure tier without even knowing it. Textcritic, for example.

He is my co worker

I’ll reveal what’s wrong with him.

He had a bad hangnail that got a mild infection.

The Flames have stated it’s not a substance issue and that he is dealing with a serious family issue. It’s none of our business until Oliver makes it our business.

So many bad-ridiculous takes in this thread. The Flames PR strategy on this has been just fine. They addressed the situation early and asked for privacy, which the media is respecting, as they should. The internet can speculate but even public figures have a right to privacy. There's nothing more for the team to say until something changes.
Also, the idea that some employers actually care about the well-being of their employees and would support them through a life crisis isn't crazy. Even if people don't get their full salary, that's what short- and long-term disability benefits are for.
Teams don't tear up contracts when there is a physical injury. Why would they consider it here if the result is the same: a player unable to play?

Fans aren't owed any sort of explanation on this situation if the player and the team wishes to keep it private.

But at the same time, the player and the team shouldn't expect fans to not have wild speculations if they choose to keep things private and fans are devoid of information. That just comes with the territory of being a hockey player. At the end of the day, fans care about the wellbeing of the team. You can't, on the one hand, want more fan engagement and take interest in the team, and then on the other hand, tell them not to pay attention to other aspects that affect the team. Again, it comes with the territory.

Eh, maybe I am virtue signaling; I'll own that if that post was about me. I should just have expressed how ####ing fustrated i am by some posters' whining about their entitlement to private information about someone else.

Then again, maybe this is me doubling down on the virtue signaling.

ETA: Time for me to give this thread a wiiiiiiide berth.

The other side of this is this ridiculous push to virtue signal about Kylington's absence. "I don't care where he is and wish him best, I'm so much better than you!"

Sounds like the clot shot / kill shot that most were coerced into taking.
Many athletes have suffered from it, as well as died on the field because of it. Honestly I hope it’s not true for him.

Knowing the answer (Like we all did) I googled it myself anyway

Young athletes dying from vaccines? That's a hoax.
Concern about myocarditis, rare and usually mild, seems to have fuelled misinformation

...

When people fact-checked lists purporting to show that young athletes had died, they often contained names like Hank Aaron, who died last year at the ripe old age of 86, or Alex Stalock, who developed myocarditis, but from a COVID infection in November 2020 prior to the vaccines becoming available. He is still alive.

Actually, employers in any Canadian organization are not supposed to disclose the reason for employee’s leave as it is personal information. Here’s an example - https://blog.firstreference.com/pers...#.Y5FWDuQTEWM:

“The Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada found that the information disclosed constituted personal information. The leave information at issue was personal information under the PIPEDA since it was information about an identifiable employee that related to why that employee was absent from the workplace. The employee scheduling program listed and identified each employee within the employee’s functional unit, and clearly associated the employee with the type of leave they used for an absence from the workplace.”
