Not sure if this was already posted, but this writer's opinion is that the Karlssons might have already secured a Norwich order, described below:

Legal Fallout From Disturbing Allegations of Cyberbullying Against Erik Karlsson and His Wife

excerpt:
"In order to get a peace bond, the complainant Curry needed to show on a balance of probabilities (i.e., more likely than not), that she had a reasonable basis upon which to fear that the defendant Caryk would cause her personal injury or harm."

also:
"Before the court issues its order, it needs to be persuaded that the order is justified. As well, Karlsson's lawyers would also want to ensure they had good evidence that Caryk is behind the online postings. If they don't, they risk exposing their client to a claim for defamation. It is possible, then, that the lawyers went ahead and secured what's called a Norwich order, which is a pre-action discovery mechanism that forces or compels a third party like Twitter and Facebook to preserve and provide evidence in its possession to a potential plaintiff."

If the writer is correct, the Karlssons may already have evidence that the perpetrator is Monika Caryk.

According to the original story, the court hasn't issued an order yet. She has only made an application by filing a complaint. The writer makes this mistake in his story even though he says in another part that they are mere allegations. He also gets the timeline for a peace bond confused because apparently he missed the fact that the application hasn't been served, so the clock hasn't even started yet. He's also a little confused about Norwich orders, which you get in a civil action, not a criminal case. Frankly, some of his info is word for word from google searches.

I seriously doubt it. Professional athletes benefit from the insane motivation of wealthy owners and managers to win championships, and from fans's tendency to gloss over transgressions. Under these conditions there will always be a place for a guy who can score like Hoffman.

Isn't that basically what being a lawyer is?

And to add, this won't be the first or last time a player's significant other does something to damage the dynamics of a dressing room and damage reputations.

In the NHL at least, this kind of stuff usually gets handled behind closed doors and if it does come out it is mostly in the unsubstantiated rumor realm.

The difference in this case is the Karlsson's felt they needed to start a legal procedure which entered it in the public record.

The heinous harassment of a couple who recently had a stillborn child adds another layer to this.

Yeah, it strikes me as unlikely that the Ottawa Citizen legal reporter who unearthed this would have failed to find out if the protection order request was granted or denied. That the Citizen doesn't say indicates to me that the request is pending.

I think making that initial application is a huge step in and of itself... to go public like that, esp as a figure as well known as Erik Karlsson means, IMO, that they got legal advice that reviewed the evidence that they had and made the determination that there was sufficient evidence to go public.

if this was completely baseless, i would presume that the Karlsson's would have opened themselves up to civil action, like a defamation lawsuit or something similar.

^ I don't think the Karlssons went public, per se. But, court records are documents in the public interest and someone with the Citizen happened across it.

substantively i guess i meant... since the records weren't sealed, presumably anyone can go through them, so part of the public record... including clerks/newspapers looking for a scoop

Need to re-label the graph because she definitely does not move one of those needles, imo.

Dallas was willing to give Sean Avery a try. When that failed and they dropped him, the Rangers were willing to give Avery another chance.

Avery was toxic and there was interest and/or willingness.

The Sens will find somebody to take Hoffman, but the price has dropped considerably.

How angry (or happy) would flames fans be if they could get Hoffman for Stone straight up?

Tons of baggage but a top 6 forward for a slightly overpaid #5D

its kinda funny that this may be the rare case where Hoffman stands to lose more money by staying with this chick and losing future earnings versus getting a divorce (I assume they are common law) and losing half his money.
