Story of the period is, If an attacking player is crashing the net, pull a pick on him and stop as hard you can so he ends up hitting you because he has absolutely no room to even attempt to stop or slow down, then you get pushed very lightly into the goalie, and even if your goalie is way out of place, doesn't even matter! No goal!

Well, considering how much praise has been lavished on Ehlers, Little which has seemingly gone unnoticed by Jets fans, you are probably right

Ugly first period for us. Sloppy and giving It away. Pretty much to be expected. Hope we got the rust out!

I don't get the hate for the PBP, I think it's been great. Lots of coverage of both teams, no homer stuff either way. Pretty decent.

Here's one of many gems from the play by play. Johnny has the puck on the left wing about to shoot, "lookout this could be trouble"
Well yea you'd say that if you're actively cheering for the Jets.

Marginal contact, from the defenseman, who was battling for position, then the goalie still had plenty of time to recover.
It was Hellebuyck's own fault that he was that far out of position.
|
The ever so slight contact came on the first shot to which he was in position to stop. After that he loses track of the puck and is way out of position to stop the goal. That minimal contact really had no bearing on the goal but it's the same issue with the CFL pass interference where it's totally worth it for coaches to throw the hail Mary challenge. I thought the reason for the challenge was to ensure that goals were taken away when goaltenders had no chance to make a save because of interference? Not to take goals off the score sheet for technicalities that didn't have a bearing on the play with the goaltender putting himself out of position.

The NHL can't get out of its own way on this stuff. How bad were the offside goals called back last year?

That disallowed goal was far more a product of Hellebuyck not being able to find the puck, not that silly bop on his arm from a one-legged Tkachuk.

I thought that was a silly call, but not because it showed a Jets bias. I just thought it didn't look like trouble at all - Johnny had no good options there and fired a weak wrister from well out.

Have the refs forgotten what interference is?

Romanuk didn't see it that way he was afraid Johnny would score.
