That was it.

It is weird that the vast majority of CP has determined that the Hodge rumour is incorrect, but somehow the McKenzie rumour for Bouw or some other player is definitely correct and Feaster is an idiot for not taking the deal.
I am just glad that Feaster left Burke with some pieces to build from like Ramo, Russel, Wotherspoon, Hudler, Gaudreau, Colborne, Poirrer, Monahan, Granlund, Klimchuk etc. Hopefully some more of Feaster's 3 years of picks turnout.

Now, ask yourself the question why would Mckenzie bother digging up a story like this, throwing a GM fired 4 months ago under the bus now seems suspicious.

The constant making up of excuses for a guy that since his time in TB has seen his teams get worse year after year with him as the GM is even more ridiculous and puzzling.
The guy has been nothing but horrific in his two separate times as GM in the NHL yet nothing is ever his fault and everything is going to work out in the future so just because it looks horrible now it will be awesome.

Tim Erixon for Horak and two 2nds is probably his best move.
I think I'd take Granlund over Erixon now, I'd take Wotherspoon over Erixon now and I think Horak and Erixon are pretty close. He absolutely destroyed that trade in a tough situation.
Russell for a mid rounder was good.
Those are the only two good Feaster trades I can think of. Definitely lost faith in him last year after the O'Reilly saga and then the mediocre returns for Iginla/Bouwmeester.

Yeah the Erixon trade was his best move in my books.
I don't even give him Monahan because that was the obvious pick. We needed a center badly and there were two good picks in our range, we got who was left.
His player targets in trades were just awful.

So this is the new trash Feaster thread? Sweet.
I was very happy the day he was fired. As discussed Feaster made a few good moves such as the Erixon and Russel trades, Hudler signing and 2011 draft but it was outweighed by the numerous bad moves. His did nothing to help re-build the team during his first few years deciding to re-sign players like Jackman and Tanguay instead of trading them at the deadline. Then when Feaster finally decided to rebuild he didn't get enough in return. I am also of the opinion he did not win the Cammy trade with Montreal as he gave up the 36th overall pick as part of a package for a player this is likely leaving as a UFA and the rights to Ramo, who was a 6th round pick Montreal had acquired for an undrafted goalie.
The major issue though was the offer sheet to O'Reilly and he should have been fired immediately. I am not even talking about the legal issue with the KHL and waivers but the fact that the Flames were one of the worst teams in the league last year and were going to give away a first round pick that ended up 6th overall.

Watching this Red Wings game I have to say Nyqviist and Tatar are pretty good. Too bad Iginla would not waive to go to Detroit, that would have been a nice trade.

The Cammalari trade was not that bad in my opinion. Kari Ramo has turned into a starter goalie in the NHL and will likely be a starter and key part of this team for many years to come.
At the time of the trade Cammy had 2? Years left on his contract. How was Feaster supposed to know he was going to go to free agency this year? Cammy was a way more important piece to this team then Rene bourque was going to be. Cammy was worth way more to this team for the two hears than Bourque would if been. What does what round the goalie was drafted in have to with anything? As far as I am concerned the Flames win that trade
I am not defending Feaster, but some of your accusations on the Cammalari trade are ridiculous

Wideman was a top 4 defender..injurys happen. And Russell is showing he's a 3-4 on any team. so Cammy and Hudler aren't top six players? First year of Kipper retiring and your complaining about trying a couple of goalie prospects in a rebuilding year?. Ramo looks as good as at least half of all starters in this league.
Give your head a shake and go geer for your real team.

it absolutely blows my mind that more people defend Feaster now than did when he was actually the GM
don't act like drafting Monahan was some stroke of genius, he tried to move the pick (almost lost it for nothing) and any idiot would have picked him at six he was the best player available

Some very good points by T@T.
Feaster critics like to criticize him even for things out of his control while downplaying the good things such as:
- got us out of cap hell
- got us out of contract hell
- reorganized and enlarged scouting
- improved development system
- hired great guys including Conny
- made the team younger
- greatly improved the prospect pool
- got rid off poisonous and confrontational atmosphere in the organization that was the doing of Sutter

I think the general consensus on the board was that Feaster had the team going in the right direction ever since he decided to commit to the rebuild, even if the returns on the Iginla and Bouwmeester trades were somewhat underwhelming, so I'm not really sure that people are more positive about him now than they were before. If they are though, the fact that this year's Feaster-built team was so likeable and the fact that people are falling in love with a player that Feaster stole in the 4th round can go a long way towards explaining it.

Yeah, as a whole I look back on Feaster's (brief) time as GM as a VERY positive time for the organization. He did a lot not only to help dig the franchise out of the hole, but built up and modernized the way the team is managed as a whole.
There are things that will always sting. I like the draft picks he got for Bouw and Iggy - but I don't think the prospects in those deals are anything but replacement, low-level players (time will tell though). I'd sooner he had drafted Maatta + Sieloff rather than Jankowski + Sieloff, not because of what Jankowski is or isn't, but because of what Maatta is already.
Even with his warts, I'd still be comfortable if Feaster was our GM right now.

I think Feaster needed a sounding board, someone with experience.
I'm surprised that he could not coexist with Burke.

I think the Feaster years were okay. No really brilliant moves and no real disasters but it was clear that he needed to go due to the near disasters of the ROR offer sheet and Brad Richards contract. If one or both of those happen he goes down as the all-time worst Flames GM. They didn't so to me he gets a C grade that could have been a B if not for the awful Jankoswi reach that set the team back due to waistng a precious 1st round pick for a project player that's kind of falling off the prospect map.

I think Feaster would have no issues coexisting with Burke but Burke. It was simply a matter of Burke not being impressed enough by what Feaster had accomplished as Flames GM.

I don't hate Feaster but this is the NHL, there are only 30 nhl GMs on earth at a given time...Does anyone really think Feaster is one of the top 30 hockey minds on earth? I don't
his time here was okay, okay doesn't cut it...guy almost lost a 6th overall pick for nothing he should have been fired that day forget about everything else

Trade him earlier and not wait until the last minute.

That is because fans are idiots and looking for a scapegoat. 4 months later Bouwmeester was invited to the Team Canada summer camp and 1 year later Bouwmeester was playing a key role for Team Canada so people who are involved in hockey knew his value.

Again trade him earlier than 2 months before the end of the season.

Wideman was the 6th defenseman for the Capitals the last time he played for them. In the play-offs they realized how much of a liability he was and did their best to hide him.
Russell was waived through the league and played okay last year. He was a mediocre to bad top 4 guy on the 4th last team in the league.
Hudler and Cammy won;t be contributing at all for this team when they are competitive again so I guess go for him for bringing two guys to help us finish 25th and 27th.
Ramo looks at best to be a 25-30th starting goalie and even that is a stretch.
I didn't even bother mentioning his repeated best guy outside of the NHL BS, Cerevenka being a winger but Feaster claiming he was a center, the disaster that was the O'Reilly offer sheet from the potential to lose the picks to the fact that it would have been an awfl deal for a mediocre player if it was successful.
And the always great you don't agree with me so you are not a fan of the Flames. Where would a pathetic T and T argument be without those gems?

Why would Burke want to keep a guy around who has shown he was a crappy GM and needs someone around to help him make hockey decisions?
Why not just fire that idiot and hire someone competent to do the job?

Moon wants Flames to finish last. I like this season and competitive nature of the team coupled with dynamic style of play.
Without some vets we got Sabres,Panthers,Oil. We need some quality vets not only to show the way for the kids but to get to the cap floor.
If anything else, Feaster was the best GM in western Canada!
I would give him C or C+ grade.
