Because they would need visas to enter the EU and can't claim asylum.

Perhaps Iranians couldn't usually get visas to those European countries of which they try to seek asylum from.

That island is so small it doesn't even show up on the Satellite version of Google Maps, you have to switch to old school map view.

This is so friggin' weird.

You take that back about the 777. She's awesome.

This contradicts with earlier reports that the aircraft had disappeared from radar screens 120 nautical miles off Kota Bharu and over the South China Sea, at 1.30am on March 8.

The straight of Malacca makes no sense, because it's such a heavily traversed shipping/boating zone. Surely if there were wreckage there, it would have been noticed by now?

Did they fly well past that area and are now somewhere in the Indian Ocean or beyond?
Is it busy near the Sumatra side of the straight?. the plane could have looped back around left trying to get back to Kuala.

At least we know the plane did turn back and possibly not to KL. Like Spoke says once you elminate all possibilities.... and the remaining possibilities are dwindling fast with this key piece of information.

I would like to see what evidence they have that the plane the military saw in the Strait of Malacca was MH 370. Considering that they lost contact completely when it was north of Malaysia, what did they see? Just a radar blip to the south?

I wish they were more thorough with what is making them form these hypotheses.

Oh boy..If the plane didn't go down in the Malacca Straight it could literally be anywhere in the Indian Ocean. It could take a very long time before any answers are found.

Why the Malaysia military could only track the plane to Pulau Perak and no further? If they are confident that that was the plane, they should be able to track it even further. That area seems to be well within Malaysia's territory.

Unless the subtext is that they tracked it to Pulau Perak and then lost contact because it crashed.
