The only win-win I can think of is an extension makes him easier to deal...in which case Cammi does it to ensure he plays in the playoffs this year.
No other scenario makes sense for both sides.

I don't think Cammallari has been missed much while he's been out. At one time I wanted to keep him as we need some vets but now I'd like to see what we can get for him.

Put it this way...since MC first became a Flame, he and MG have almost identical numbers except in all offensive categories...including assists.
The difference though? MC has earned somewhere around 14 million dollars less to do so.
Im not derailing this off of what it should be any further, but to suggest that MG is some sort great offensive upgade on MC is quite frankly....ridiculous.

Except you forgot to mention that Cammy has played 58 more games for the same offensive production. The money means nothing, neither you nor I pay it. Money does not add, or subtract, value from a player.

Why are we talking about Gaborik... he's not coming here.

Unless you're talking about a salary capped league, which we are.

not really. sure Toffoli isn't worth a top-5 pick, but 30% (35%?) of all players selected in the first round play more than 200 nhl games? Tofolli's a safe bet to do a lot more than that.
I wouldn't Trade Toffoli for anything less than a top 10-15 pick.
Cammalleri will get the Flames a pick between 25-30 overall and a B level prospect (ie Ben Hanowski)

Fully understood, but I hate when some people justify everything by using the salaries to discuss worth. Gaborik since 2008-09 made $12M more than Cammy, so $2M per year not a big deal.
I mentioned Gaborik because he is in the same contract status as Cammy and there is a better chance of the Flames signing someone like him than getting a Crosby (Moon comment). They have to reach the floor of the cap also and I see no value moving forward in Cammy.

The Flames originally acquired Cammalleri, in his prime, for a 1st rounder (19th). Though it's true that teams overpay at trade deadline, to expect a rental old Cammalleri to fetch more than that is setting up for disappointment.
Perhaps Burke is able to grab a late 1st in a weak draft, but to expect guys like Toffoli is a pipe dream.

And since we acquired him for a 1st, he's had a 39 goal year and done really well with Montreal in the playoffs.
If somebody at the deadline needs scoring they may overpay to get it.

I think the FLames' strategy with potentially re-signing him is that he is a fitness machine and works incredibly hard in the offseason to keep himself in top shape. As a small person, he has to in order to be strong on the puck and get through the grind of a regular NHL season.
He'd be the kind of guy a small, skilled forward coming out of .... say.... US College .... may want to have his locker next to throughout his rookie season.

Might be wishful thinking on my part, but the NYI gave up essentially 2 first rounders for Thomas Vanek.
Toffoli was a 2nd round pick don't forget. 47th overall, 3 seasons ago. He's almost 22. Same age as Baertshi and he is being labelled as a bust, they are similar statistically.
Baertshi .47 PPG
Toffoli .51 PPG
I like Toffoli's game, but let's not get ahead of ourselves like he's the next Crosby or something.

I do see where you're coming from, always figured Hudler would be more of a mentor for the little guys, nameably Gaudreau. Guy's small but plays big and has developed tricks & techniques to win battles in the corners against bigger, stronger opponents.

Yeah there's no way Toffoli is coming back for Cammalleri.
A first rounder between 20 and 30 is likely the main piece.

It would probably take more, but what then?
If Toffoli is worth the 25th overall + what would the + be?
25th and 63rd?
25th and 33rd would be overpayment IMO

Funny thing about trading top prospects is to the team that has them they seem to be worth more than high draft picks. To everyone else they seem to be worth less.

It's kinda like that old show "Let's make a deal", some people keep the $500, some take what's behind the curtain.

Hmmmm:
“@RogMillions: Cammalleri says he has had a number of "great" discussions with Brian Burke regarding his future. No details. #Flames.”

Well, if he wanted a trade in the summer and now these discussions are "great", hopefully it means he will finally get his wish
