Burke did offer a lot of money to Cammalleri the last time the Cammy was a UFA...

I would be more pleased to have the Flames move Cammy for a 1st and a prospect. Perhaps if Cammy was a larger player and still had decent speed i would feel different about his future status with Calgary.
Still has good hands and generally a smart player but his lack of desire for a full game fades at times.

I'd like to see a first rounder back but they might need to re-sign him just to get the cap hit. We have 13 players signed and need to spend another 15 million to make the floor. Assuming a couple of rookies make the team that will be a challenge.

One way to reach the floor is offer a UFA crazy money for a one year in the offseason - Offer Cammy 8 mln, offer Vanek 9mln. Then trade them at the deadline for 1st round picks.

except most ufa's want to win or play back east where the travel isn't bad.
There will be opportunities to pick up contracts on the cheap. Teams will be looking to dump players like Booth, Erat, Havlat and Leino to name a few and may offer an incentive to us to take their bad contracts. All this panic about not being able to hit the floor is ridiculous.

There are two types of players the Flames need right now. The first are young players that the future team can be built around. Cammalleri doesn't fall into that group.
But the second set is veteran players that can shelter the rookies, keep the games marginally competitive, and have the leadership to maintain the compete culture that exists today.
We don't want to be the Oilers. All talent but no guts. Players like Stajan, Cammalleri, and Giordano are big parts of keeping the right culture.
In fact, it is very possible we see potential future building blocks like Backlund, Brodie, Hudler, Russell, Baertschi, etc moved. Not because Burke likes the Cammalleri's better, but because Burke wants different future building blocks to build his future team. (To be clear, I am not suggesting those players should be traded.)
That all said, I still think Cammalleri is moved. I don't think they will be able to sign him to a contract that makes sense. I also think the return will warrant a move. But I do think they would like to keep him if they could.

A Cammy trade to L.A. seems to be what makes most sense right now for both clubs. If we could get a first and maybe a prospect I would be very happy. L.A. will finish in the playoffs but not at the top of the gap so the first could be quite a bit lower than taking him to Pittsburg or the like. L.A. needs offence and that is what Cammy would bring them.

You would think D. Sutter would like to coach Cammy again. The guy was dynamite when he last coached him.
Regarding the contract extension: it makes sense to at least make an enquiry with his agent. Cammalleri on a cheaper contract might fetch a higher return in the future.
I doubt he signs though, and I've still got my fingers crossed we'll get a really solid return for him in the next month or so...

When did Sutter coach Cammy? Keenan was the flames coach when we first had him

Ah yes, big d'oh.
I still think he'd be a fan of acquiring him.

Re-acquiring him no? I believe Sutter was GM when the Flames made that draft day trade to acquire Cammy from the Kings in 08.

Sutter took a jab at him when he said something to the effect of "we've seen how little players play against big men in the playoffs" after he became a free agent. It was really unclassy by Sutter.
Lombardi also supposedly didn't have the best relationship with Cammalleri (who knows if it was overblown).
So I don't know if I would put them top of the list. Maybe some change of hearts. Cammalleri definitely proved Sutter wrong the following year with his post-season play.

I hope they trade him. Don't care where, or for who. He is vastly overrated by many fans here as he just floats around and shoots the puck whenever he gets it. So many times he gets the puck on the boards, fires a high shot wide and the puck clears the zone back into the Flames end. He is only playing to pad his own stats to get a contract, I honestly don't see the great leadership he supposedly provides, but then again I am not in the dressing room.
I would rather have Gaborik.

Instead of trading for a first and a prospect, I hope/wish he could be traded for a good prospect (Bennett, Toffoli) and a later pick.

Toffoli isn't worth a top 5 pick. Toffoli is worth more than the 30th pick.
Cammalleri is worth a first rounder and a prospect, so simply saying that he isn't worth Toffoli is arguable.

Cammy does nothing to assist in making the players around him better, if you feel he does please show me some instances where this is factual. And as to Gaborik, the same age and has scored 200 more points in the NHL than Cammy. He at least can create his own offense, while Cammy stands off to the side for his one timer into the glass.

I have zero idea why Burke would want to extend Cammalleri. Soft, small and easily shut down. He's worse than Hudler.
