Good win but they still need to improve, especially 5 on 5.

Fucale had a big game and Gilles was shaky IMO.

Still lots of work to do if they want to win gold.

Oh for sure.
I thought this would be a goaltender battle, but thought it would be going the other way today.

Good smart D by Griffin at the end there. Didn't try to throw it out and risk giving them a point shot. Switzerland in the quarterfinal is better than Russia or Finland (hopefully).

Nice. Gotta admit, didn't think there was a chance we'd win this game today given what I'd seen so far in the tourney. Glad they proved me wrong.

Hats to Fucale especially.

Much more important game for Canada than the US, they needed a statement game and to gain confidence and they got it. Hopefully that goal has loosened up McDavid as well.

They also look to have found their goalie as Fucale was excellent - hopefully he can replicate that performance.

Amazing that this is one of the worst teams Canada has sent to the tournament in many years and they still finish 1st in their pool. Still need to win three more though.

Happy new year to all.

So QF will be:

Canada - Switzerland
USA - Finland/Russia
Czech - Finland/Russia
Sweden - Slovakia

Gillies didn't have much chance on two of those. He's no John Gibson though. He'll have to get his rebounds under control if US is going to medal.

Once Canada started cycling in the 2nd the skill level of the US got exposed. We're a great grind team, but just don't have the skill to match chances with Canada.

Also boo to the tourney for having no games tomorrow when Canadians could actually watch... although Semi-finals/Finals will be on the weekend.

Big win since we now don't have to face the Swedes until finals if we make it there.

That QF game between US-Fin/Russia will be tough and another reason the win was big today we want to avoid that game as well.

He wasn't at fault for the goals but he was shaky with his rebound control and beat on the two post shots.

He just didn't look comfortable at all IMO, seemed to lack confidence and was fighting everything. It didn't really lead to goals but I think it did give Canada some life.

First time playing in such a big game and it likely got to him a little bit.

Fucale on the other hand went through games like this on the road to the Memorial Cup and it showed in his poise.

Strange game for Fucale. Looked amazing most of the game, but looked bad on both the goals he let in. That breakaway save was huge.

Wow, huge crowd at the Finland-Switzerland game. I've seen Flames practices with more people in the stands.
