Minor league games, weight lifting in the offseason, etc etc also still contribute to wear and tear.
Ok. Add all his non-NHL games too. He is still below others of his age bracket from that draft.

If you had to bet on longevity of two identical players of the same age, same injury history...one played 600 game and one played 300, who would you put your money on to last longer/age "gracefully"? Or by your superior logic it's a coin toss? Come on. You know what my point is, and it's valid.

I love the metabolic reference. How does that account for wear and tear on shoulders, knees, hips, etc from game counts.

In the next three years? Why not? That sounds fun.

So who has a better year… Bennett or Coleman?

Don’t love it, don’t hate it. I like him as a player so just hope he can make this team better, which he should. Have a feeling he’s going to be a fan favorite.

People complaining about the term don’t seem to understand the market for UFAs. They almost all involve term that will look bad in the final years. That’s just the price you pay for getting a veteran with no acquisition cost.

Don’t want to sign players to deals longer than 3 years? Then you won’t be signing anyone worthwhile. Because other teams will offer term.

Top 5, 5vs5 player on the Stanley Cup Champs

dO nOT wANt

I think some of you are under selling this guy. 6 years too much? Maybe. Frolik was too much and the Flames traded him for a pick.

Or ....

We could look up stats!

Coleman at 2.04 Pts60 five on five was the 80th most productive forward in the NHL last season.

So lets see ... 31 teams and 80 players would make him a 3rd forward on the average NHL team.

To be a below average 2nd liner as you suggest he would have to be in that forward number 6 range, which would be players 156 to 186

Players 156 to 186 average 1.55 Pts60

So no ... you're incorrect his numbers are actually above a 2nd liner.

Better to get in with inaccurate pessimism quickly though!

We'll see this coming season, but I'd take Bennett over Coleman.

I'll take a St.Louis run then, thanks.

Look at the way the Flames are built... that's the goal.

You want to be Tampa? Then we'll see you in 10-15 years.

There's no one-path to the cup. Let's try to take the ones available to us today.

Coleman will be better than Bennett in Calgary

Bennett might put up more points in Florida but will be in a bigger offensive role

Just hoping Calgary can find a GM that can build a proper team that contends. Probably too much to ask lol. Commitment to mediocrity.

I didn't think powerplay time bumped their status. Compared to their teammates, I'd label them middle 6.
Age was not a factor in the original statement.
I think middle six implies a player rolling around thrpughout the middle six.

Most teams have four top forwards, so calling the fourth one of the bunch a middle sixer is disingenous when that team is stacked.

Look back to the 2019 Flames:

Gaudreau
Monahan
Lindholm
Tkachuk

were our four guys. or look at the Leafs:

Matthews
Marner
Nylander
Tavare

or look to the Blackhawks:

Kane
Dach
Debrincat
Toews

Calling one of a team's four top forwards a middle sixer would have been equally disingenous. It's technically correct, but that's due to the term being dated to when powerplays had two defensemen. When a player consistently plays in the top six, and the top PP, like Oshie, Killorn do, I think you need to exercise some nuance.

Tkachuk gets his QO and not a cent more after the season he just had.

Pretty much widdled away his opportunity to negotiate a higher AAV.

Hmmm what happens if you multiply Colemans P/60 by a factor of average nhl team production/ Tampas offensive production? Might be a more accurate number but still won't account for not being surrounded by elite players

Not Flames Bennett.

SB put up a different level of effort in Florida. We didn't see much of that here in the later seasons.
