Yeah a rebuild is bonkers. You have an absolute unit of a lineup all young and under team control. Then you have Manoah, Gausman, and Stripling for the rotation. You have to keep trotting out Berrios to see if he can turn it around. But with Ryu’s money off the books and plenty of depth in the prospect pool you make a move if there is one that is available. They just need a reliable 4th starter to hold opponents to 4 runs to give the team a shot at winning. Something to provide stability to figure out the Berrios/Kikuchi situation before it’s too late. And then tinker in the bullpen. Who knows maybe shifting Kikuchi there will be a blessing from both ends.

This is the first real 'competitive year' in the Jays window. While it's disappointing that it's not going to grow from last year, there is no rush or panic to sell off yet.
Anyways, I said it at the time and I've said it all season: Berrios is a lemon. That contract was awful then and awful now.

Their only great starter is Manoah but it drops off hard after that. If they had another guy of Manoah's calibre and rounded out the other three with Gausman, Stripling, and a healthy Ryu, they'd be contenders. But their rotation isn't nearly that and won't be for the forseeable future.

I wonder where a good trade candidate may be. The only really underachieving team so far is the White Sox. But they wouldn’t be sellers as they have too much invested and need to give it a shot. Unless things really go sideways. Giolito or Lynn would be great . There are a lot of bad teams trying to be bad again. So it’s debatable what kind of talent you could get from those teams. Maybe there’s an option with the Dbacks, Rockies, or Cubs?

As someone out of the loop on the value of different positions, could one of catchers get us a legit starting pitcher in a trade?

Rebuild? No.
But they should not be spending prospect capital this year.

Kikuchi sucking isn't exactly a surprise. He's the 5th starter, it's going to happen. It's disappointing for sure, especially when he shows such amazing flashes.
The big problem right now is Berrios sucking. He's supposed to be one if our top of the rotation guys and has a history of being good. They need to figure that #### out pronto. This team has the offense to survive with 3-4 starters giving them quality starts every time through the rotation, but Berrios getting shelled worse than Kikuchi is giving them only 2-3 quality starts the last few tines through. Clearly not good enough.

Hard to say. There are rumors that the Yankees are looking for a catcher and have eyes on Contraras of the Cubs.

If you're trading Kirk or Jansen, you're probably getting prospects. If you're trading Moreno, that would be for a significant arm but it's risky. You'd be getting into D'Arnaud for Dickey territory.

I'm in Seattle and going to the game tomorrow. Sucks they are playing the Orioles, but super stoked Robbie Ray is starting for the M's.

I'm a big "back of the baseball card" guy and because of that I think that Berrios will be fine. He is a very good pitcher going through a rough patch. You absolutely keep running him out there and it will get figured out. He's too young and has been so consistent for so long. I mean, sure a pitcher falling off a cliff sometimes happens, but I am still believing.
Kikuchi on the other hand, not so much. He is pitching scared. It could turn around, or maybe this is who he is.

Oh boy. I had a feeling when Romo got cut by the M's that the Jays might pick him up.
Just in time for 8 games vs the Red Sox and Rays....
I predict he gets shelled hard.

That inning started off so promising. Then chasing balls out of the strike zone, base running error.............arggggg.

Also, I just want to say that what Gausman did today, and what Manoah is also capable of, that (combined with being in a playoff spot lol) is why the rebuild talk from yesterday is so silly.
Rolling those two out in a best of 3, 5 or 7 gives the Jays a chance to win the series against anyone IMO.
And if Berrios figures out what is ailing him, or the Jays manage to trade for a legit ACE if one becomes available then it's icing on the cake.
