Wow really? That surprises me. I feel like Yandle has kind of fizzled into a middling D-man since he is on a good team now and not getting fed prime minutes. But I haven't really followed him since he went east. What's the rationale? Buff is a beast

Pretty sure Yandle's been their top defenseman. McDonagh's the guy that's kind of fallen off.

Yandle has 7 points in 12 games this season.
I think Yandle and Byfuglien are similar players in that they are both offense first defencemen that aren't really counted on to be shutdown guys or do a lot of PK work. Yandle doesn't really PK at all while Buff has been playing about a minute per game.
Buff is more physical, but he'll be 38 by the end of a 7 year contract while Yandle will only be 36.
Add in Buff's history of not really being in the best shape(I know round is a shape), and I think Yandle is the better bet to be a high performer by the end of his contract.

Fools gold. That said the Flames just handed Giordano an albatross contract. Most GM's know fully well they may not be around to deal with the back end of some of these long term deals and make the deals to win today to keep their job safe.

If the Oilers sign one of Byfuglien or Yandle, as a Flames fan, I hope to god it's Yandle.
(though neither will happen anyway, so who really cares?)

I would be pissed if we signed Byfulien to a 7 year 7 million total deal let alone 7 million per year, that is insane.
I feel sorry for whatever GM gives out that albatross of a deal.

The chance of a high-profile American UFA choosing Edmonton after playing in Arizona and NYC is slim to none.
Byfuglien I'm sure will go to whichever American contender has the free dough for him.

Do you really think going to a contender will be a big motivator? The guy already has his name on the Cup. I figure he'll go wherever he can make the most money, with climate being a secondary consideration.

some more eklund today, and potential Iginla destinations:
Quote:
One team to look to could very well be Colorado who holds a few nice pieces which could help teams in great ways as the playoffs approach...
One such chip, according to very well placed source, is Jerome Iginla. Iginla has this year and one more remaining on a 5.25M contract, but Iginla still has plenty left in the tank. The Avalanche also have to sign McKinnon this summer and that won't be easy...
Montreal is the team I keep hearing the most associated with Iginla, but a quick check around the league found Florida, the Kings and the Islanders all costly watching this situation...

Iginla to Montreal makes all sorts of sense to me.
The salary structure fits in with their recent extension to Plekanec and Markov's contract being done at the end of the year.

He's got a NMC. This is the guy who used his NTC in the past to nitpick about Pittsburgh over Boston. Would he waive for a fishbowl? I think he got his fill here.

He has a family and registered his kids in a local hockey program there. I think he's "comfy" in Colorado.... doubt he waives his NMC. I bet he plays out his contract there.

Have to factor in Tanguay's contract too. Whoever gets Iginla also gets Tanguay. Its like a divorce settlement.

I agree but if the Habs are still in first place at the deadline I would be surprised to not see Iggy go for another run at the cup rather than toil on a bottom feeder. He wouldn't have left Calgary if he wanted to do that

In regards to him being nit picky on where he went when the Flames traded him, that's an absolutely fair statement. The guy tried to micro optimize a situation that simply couldn't be micro optimized and it didn't work out. Strong potential IMO that he may have learnt there is no benefit to trying to be that nit picky moving forward.
As for the family part, also a fair comment, so I guess it will come down to whether he still has a drive to win that elusive cup? I'd be surprised if he doesn't, so at the end of the day, I'd be surprised if he wasn't willing to accept a trade at this point to any of the teams with a real shot at the cup, especially one that's ticking along as well as Montreal.

I obviously don't know this but my gut tells me Iginla is not suddenly going to make Denver his last and final destination. I am sure his kids played hockey in his other stops and so I bet he is prepared to make another move to a contender. Montreal makes total sense to me.
