Haha, awesome. Journos be digging into the mud now. I also love the "It's not my job to ID them" defense.

A longtime Conservative is denying a report that suggests he knowingly bought hundreds of dollars of alcohol for underage girls at a nightclub last month.

The denial came after the Buzzfeed website published photographs that appeared to show Rick Dykstra posing with teenaged girls at the Mansion House nightclub on Sept. 2 in his riding of St. Catharines, where he's seeking reelection.

Dykstra is seen smiling in a photo alongside several people who are holding beverages in their hands at the club, a popular spot for the city's university students.

His campaign denied he knowingly bought underage girls any alcohol, adding he assumed anyone at the nightclub was of legal drinking age.

"Mr. Dykstra was in a licensed establishment, where patrons are required to be 19 or older," Karen Moncur, Dykstra's campaign spokeswoman, said in an email.

"Given Ontario's rigorous ID requirements, Mr. Dykstra had no reason to believe anyone in the establishment was underage. Mr. Dykstra did not purchase drinks for any of the individuals in question, nor did he see them consume any alcohol from the bottles he purchased."

I was going to post this. the fact that decisions on this country are not being pulled from relevant, complete and up-to-date data suggests to me that the Cons are, at least in part, making decisions based on ideology and influence from lobby groups and foreign partners. The selective "penny-pinching" table is a good reference about how they are closing down information centers in this country at an alarming rate.

Craig Orr, a wildlife ecologist specializing in aquaculture impacts who has worked with DFO on conservation projects, said the lack of data and information is harming scientists studying British Columbia's waterways.

The closure of libraries was a little bit for saving money, but more about government abandoning evidence-based decision making," he said.“We've seen really alarming trends in terms of ground water availability and stream temperature. But without the data, nobody can prove the government wrong.

Orr said he was disturbed by the halt on data-gathering for chinook salmon in Black Creek on Vancouver Island, where scientists have continuously monitored fish for over two decades.

"A lot of this information is linked to climate change," he said. "They've abandoned monitoring for smaller river systems, and we'd had continuous series of data for 25 years in some of these indicator streams. When you start axing long-term monitoring, it's a sign the government really doesn't want this data."

Ohhhhh the Mansion. What a spot. It's common knowledge that the majority of girls are under age in there.

I dunno, I think in a licensed establishment it's a pretty reasonable one. I've drank with/bought drinks for so many people in my life I can't even ballpark the number, but I can tell you the number of people I ID'd. 0

Assuming it's not an all ages place and there are no underagers permitted I think it's reasonable to assume everyone in there is off age.

In BC, even if you didn't know they were underage you're still responsible outside of a club, though I am not sure how that plays in a situation where the assumption could be made they were over 19.

What angers me so much is that many conservative voters I've talked to are in agreement that Harper's war on science is bad, but they're more concerned with another party potentially causing harm to the oil & gas industry. They see the real damage that Harper has done to this country with empirical evidence, yet will still vote for him because the Liberals or NDP will "wreck" Alberta's economy

Maybe now that our economy has already tanked with the conservatives still in power, it'll help break the myth that they are somehow the most fiscally responsible party out there

Nothing new there though. Not illegal at those ages.

I honestly can't wait for the day when party politics is dead and funding decisions are made using highly-advanced business intelligence and analytics from the government's ERP systems, combined with forecasting models. Of course, that won't exist under the CPC who refuses to acknowledge data beyond the black numbers they marginally generate under their leadership.

That's my MP right there. So proud to live here.

The thing is, this won't affect the race in St. Catharines one iota. Dykstra won the last two with 50-ish per cent of the vote, and the city is covered in his signage. He's getting in again, no matter what he does.

Is the #BarbaricCulturalPractices tip line open yet? I'd like to report someone for overusing a dog whistle.

Zing.

Time to realize we've all been fooled by Lynton Crosby's cynical strategy - the Aussie campaign fixer that helps David Cameron by similarly whipping up all sorts of anti muslim hysteria. The fact that the Niqab is an issue being talked about is his doing. This is exactly what he wants to appeal to a certain base (particularly Quebec).

Time to move on.

UVic is holding debates for the two South Island ridings. Guess which party's candidates are no-showing.
