As a general rule, playoff hockey trends towards hard, heavy hockey, which favors bigger players. Yes, skill is important and you need to get to the playoffs, but need the bigger players to get through the playoffs.
Florida had Evan Rodrigues and Brad Marchand as their sub 6' last year. And Marchand doesn't play small.

Apologies for bringing politics to this thread, but where have you been for the past 6 months?
Back to trades...

I worry a little bit about all of the smaller players in our prospect base, even though those same players are some of our best youngsters. We need a bit more size and snarl coming up the pipe.

First off he won't have a choice if the team is not on his no trade list. Second stop watching cbc news.

Is this your opinion or you have intel on this? This is the first I’ve heard that he doesn’t want to be around rebuild. Granted it’s not shocking if he doesn’t.

I get his first choice is to stay in Canada. That said if he wants to compete for a cup then there aren’t that many Canadian teams that can offer that. I think Montreal is out because they already picked up a center. No chance they send him to Edmonton. Maybe Toronto because they do have good players and could make the playoffs for the next couple of years. I’m still not counting them out this year for playoffs.
As for the post about him not having a choice because of a 13 team trade list….
It’s been rumoured that Conroy is going to work with Kadri and send him somewhere he wants to go. My guess that dwindles it down quite considerably if true

I have been told since the beginning of the year that if they were to start tearing things down he would be looking to go somewhere. He’s not getting any younger
It doesn’t sound like he’d force his way out, but it’s not a surprise that his name is being floated around a lot more by the big media guys

I mean, he was literally at the site of the new arena in a hard hat. I think he's in for the rebuild.

Sure but that was then. As I said in initial post when losses start mounting veterans could easily have a change of heart.

Possibly. I do like Weegar but he's been awful this season, hope we aren't selling low when he has plenty of term so it's not like he's UFA like Ras.

Another fun one is will there be more NHL or NBA trades today. The NBA deadline is tomorrow and the NHL freeze is today. NBA has had some decently large deals over the past couple of days and there has been a lot of rumors of teams trying to get some things done before the Olympics in the NHL

You literally quoted the part in my text where I said Weegar.
They need a #1RD with term. Weegar is an exact fit for their need.
What would be fun is discussing values. Andersson was valued around 2 1st round picks because he did not have an extension in place.
Does that make Weegar with 5.25 years of term = 3 1st round picks? More or less?
How much is Misa worth? 4 1st round picks? He is not a consensus #1OA guy and arguably he might not be top 5 in this upcoming draft.
Can the deal be 1:1 Weegar for Misa?
Or do the Flames need to add: Weegar + 2nd for Misa?
Considering how valuable Weegar is to the Flames I am not sure he gets moved for much less than that. He is going to be the #1D and leader of the D group and mentor to Kuznetsov, Parekh, and Brzustewicz and hopefully help Wolf survive these dark years of rebuilding.

I bet the over 4 trades before noon MST. Will any of them be Flames related? Probably not

Doubt any Flames trades happen today. The post-Olympics chaos is our time to shine.
