I think Higgins concession speech was quite pointed and conciliatory actually.
There is a thing called winning with some grace.

I seriously wonder what you're going to do when Nenshi either starts breaking campaign promises or just outright flip flops on issues.

Well I'm glad I wasn't the one that noticed. "Reduce poverty!"

It was lame and embarrassing. However maybe it is fitting reference as I can guarantee you his fate will be similar. He was the sexy, flavour of the month pick, but it will fade when people realize that his fairy dust, and unicorn magic promises need to be approved by city council first. He will be a punchline that people can't wait to get rid of. Quote me on it, bet me on it, whatever you want. I guarantee we will only see three years of Nenshi.

Actually, I voted for no one. My representative in the MD of Foothills was returned by acclimation.
Boring night!!!

It's been pointed out over and over again that Higgins not running does not automatically translate to votes for Ric. In fact, a majority of the people who voted Higgins were doing so because they wanted change.

So Nenshi supporters, you can gloat in victory, but just because I do not support, nor buy into the hype, that does not make my opinion any less valuable.

That's why we vote. Welcome to democracy.

Don't forget, 62% of the people polled did not support this man, and those 62% will be out in droves next time around.

This just makes no sense. So that 62% is going to turn out even more then they did this time?

No, that 62% is going to unify under some mythical candidate to oust Nenshi because... well, I'm not sure why yet, but they will!
Chances are a good chunk of that 62% voted based on name recognition alone, and next time around, Nenshi will be the one with that name recognition.
In the end, McIver was a divisive force on council, and the citizens of Calgary had enough of that. Enough that that we had the highest turnout in years, if not decades. Don't blame Barb for the fact that McIver's message was not what the people wanted to hear, Pylon.

There is such a thing as the "tyranny of the majority".

Naheed was just on QR77 and it's nice to hear he has a list of 4 major time sensitive things that need attention right away.
- 2011 budget
- Airport tunnel
- SE LRT funding
- Fix Council
I can only imagine what Barb's list would have been.
- Learn politicy stuff.

Some people just get extremely bitter when their own candidate doesnt win and eagerly anticipate, and hope, for the winner to fail.....even though in the end, having a great mayor would benefit everybody.

I liked her concession speech too, but it's not her concession speech I'm referring to. The comment I'm referring to was made later. It sounded bitter.

However, Nenshi is clearly no friend of Higgins. Even as she conceded she had lost the race for Calgary mayor to the business professor, she criticized what she called his negative campaign. “I’m going to call it like I see it and he was incredibly negative,” Higgins told reporters at the Metropolitan Centre. “That worked for some people. It was effective. We’ll all have lots of time to think about what happened.”

That sounds a lot like "waah waah waah, he's a big meanie and I could have won if I went negative too."
But, whatever, it's not a big deal to me. It doesn't upset me. It simply reassures me that I made the right choice and I find it mildly entertaining consider the garbage Hawkesworth was spewing on her behalf. Nobody crapped in my cornflakes this morning!

That's a little unfair. I'm sure the people writing Barb's scripts already know the policy stuff!

Cutting off the nose to spite the face... sheer stupidity.
Maybe they all need to hook up with this guy http://twitter.com/kylemla and have themselves a tea party.
Even if Barb won, I would have liked her to succeed.

Quite frankly, none of the top three candidates impressed me.
McIver's a doof.
Higgins' a puppet.
Nenshi ran a drumhead campaign.

I heard some gossip that was suggesting Barb was told to run By Bronco, because Bronco hates McIver. There was also some suggestion that a local rich philanthropist also was behind her.
If true, no wonder McIver was choking back the tears. He had it in the bag, then his enemies split off 50% of his support, and he helplessly lost.
