I voted for Naheed, and I expect some public updates of the changes he's talking about implementing.
Specifically, I'd like to see some immediate action with the building process, and want to see some movement toward legalizing secondary suites, and what measures he's planning on taking WRT safety/code issues.

peace bridge is such a red herring argument.
25 million using provincial money tabbed for use on pedestrian infrastructure vs 1 billion dollars on a ring road that is on the fringes of this already sprawling city?
let's get an appropriation tax passed so that tax payers' money stays in the wards where they live...That would solve a lot of issues about spending.

Congrats Naheed Nenshi. Well deserved. Practice what you preach, don't disappoint us who vigorously supported you!! Exciting day to be a Calgarian.

Right now, with 23 stations left to report, Nenshi is less than 10,000 votes behind the total that Bronco received in his landslide victory 3 years ago.

I think the Park and Ride thing was representative of the issue with Ric. He voted for the fee (a new tax) as alderman, but campaigned against it running for mayor. So, not only has he shown he will vote to raise taxes, but he has also shown that he will not stand firm on an issue. Rather, he tried to play the populist by promising what he thought the people wanted.
Ric knows the game, and he plays it very well. Problem is, Calgarians are tired of it. Especially given the stench the last city council left. I think he is a guy who could move up to the provincial level and win pretty easily if he sought to become an MLA, however.

Well, can't say I'm ecstatic. I voted McIver for one big reason, he's vocal about Race City and wants to keep motorsports alive and well in the Calgary area. It saddens me that this election may be the end of our only local track, leaving a lot of hobbyists in the dust or having to travel far distances. It's too bad Ric will not keep his influence.
I'll wait and see how Nenshi does. I'm a little excited about the cultural, arts and recreation improvements he may bring though, but I hope he sees there are other important issues than a tunnel, audits and transit.

Nenshi said he was FOR working with the track to find a way to keep it, but AGAINST the city pandering to one small business.
Seems fair and reasonable to me. Hopefully the two groups can work something out.

no kidding?! and the Sun endorsing Nenshi?! I thought there was some crazy reverse psychology thingy going on there...
anyways, the election is the easy part; being true to your policies and platform is much more difficult.
Good luck to the mayor elect!

You should email or tweet Nenshi directly and see what he thinks about Race City. It might be something he hasn't thought much about. There was always a disconnect with past mayors, maybe this is one who will reply. He certainly used it to win this election.

As typical to most of Nenshi's answers, it was vague and open ended, with no plan of action. McIver clearly was the one pushing for it. In that regard, McIver won out.
I really hope Nenshi does though.
