Sorry little Jimmy, but because teachers have demanded all kids in the classroom have to be healthy you can't be with your friends anymore. But we're certain you'll make new friends in our health risk category B classroom.

This is a really weird argument. Do you not understand the difference between someone being actively infected with a virus versus other physical ailments?
I will try to make this simple. I am only talking about viruses, infecting other people with viruses, and none of this other stuff that you brought up for no reason. In case you missed the memo, viruses are bad, spreading viruses is preventable, and people need to do better to stop the spread of viruses to themselves as well as their kids.
These are a few reasonable steps to how we make classrooms safe and inclusive:
- Getting vaccinated against viruses is an easy and safe way to protect people from viruses. Some viruses were eradicated before dumb people stopped vaccinating for them and allowed them to come back.
- Classroom infrastructure can be improved to help prevent virus spread before symptoms are obvious. People in power in Alberta do not like this option because it costs money and takes money away from grifts
- Having a kid show up to class with a virus should be stopped to protect the rest of the kids and the teacher from being infected by the virus.
As a parent, it is your responsibility to not send your virus spreading kid to class and get other kids infected. If everyone did that, viruses would not spread so much and kids and teachers would be healthier.
As a teacher, I think it is reasonable to expect a healthy and safe workplace. I assume you would agree to having a safe workplace at an oil rig, so why shouldn't a teacher expect a safe workplace? They do not get paid the same kind of hazard salary that a rigpig gets but I would argue that a teacher is way more important.
Why wouldn't you want a safe workplace for kids? How much would you pay for your kids safety? $500 for a HEPA filter? $1000 for UV lights that kill viruses? $5000 to properly ventilate the room? For a room with 20+ kids I would easily pay all of that.
If your kid is sick so often that you feel like I am discriminating against you then maybe you should stop and take a look at your life choices that are leading to your kid being sick all of the time. Being infected with a virus should be an infrequent occurrence, not a constant activity.
If your kid has some other issue such as critical illness or mental health problems, then I am sorry, but I am not talking about those kids or those problems but I do think they need to be better supported as well. I would be happy to reset and talk about that specifically as I feel like the UCP is failing in those situations as well by increasing class sizes and eroding class room support.
